When did you start needing maternity clothes?

During my first pregnancy I wore normal clothes until I was about 5 1/2 months pregnant. I've lost a lot of weight this year and my waist bands are tight at 12 weeks. My clothes fit elsewhere. Am I putting weight on or beginning to show?

First pregnancy - about 5 months or so.

Second pregnancy (.i.e. now), managed in fat clothes till around 16 weeks then gracefully gave into wearing maternity clothes.

Your body can expand faster with your second pregnancy (all my friends who have 2 or more told me so but didnt believe them)

1st preg (twins) - 16 weeks ish
2nd preg (singleton) - just over 12 weeks

I didn't bother with the 'fat' clothes this time. First time round I felt they made me look, er, fat due to the fact that they are too big everywhere. Started wearing maternity clothes at 14 weeks I think, and they are still too big at 18 weeks. I must look a complete mess running to catch the bus whilst holding my trousers up!

Well I am at the same crossroads. I am about 11-12 weeks and look like I have eaten all the pies (which I of course may have done in the last week or so, I am so hungry), so trying to find some maternity stuff but being size 20 anyway and shorter than five foot it is difficult.

I wore larger clothes last time and just felt like a budda, and hated it so I am determined to find maternity clothes this week so I can feel a little more comfortable!

The first time round I was about 4 months before I showed and working full time so managed to keep it quite, this time tho, no such luck!

That should be quiet not quite! DOH

I had some 1-2 size bigger pants and skirts from my heavier days which I wore till week 12 or so. Then I needed maternity pants even though they didnt fit quite 'full' initially. After about week 22 I needed maternity blouses. This is my first pregnancy and I have twins.

1st pregnancy - 16 weeks
2nd pregnancy - 8 weeks

This is my first and I've gone up about a trouser size at 6 + 3 (YIKES!) but all my friends tell me I should stay at this size until at least the end of the trimester!

Thank god for Primark, £5 trousers and jeans!

1st pg - about 5 months
This pg, I bought a pair of jeans a size bigger (£10 - George at Asda) about 2wks ago (14wks pg) and wore clothes that were looser from normal wardrobe. Have now given in (16wks) and bought maternity clothes but I need to wear a belt with them otherwise I do a moonie and everyone will see my builders bum when I sit down / lean over!!

LoveActually · 03/11/2008 14:04

I was able to fit into my normal clothes until 12 weeks. I did put on weight but I wear my clothes a size larger (am an 8 but wear a 10) so I probably would have bought them sooner.
Now 31 weeks, there's only one of my old dresses I can get into!!!

RedSparklersOnHerHead · 03/11/2008 14:07

1st preg - 10weeks
2nd preg - about 24weeks (but I lost weight in the beginning because of terrible morning sickness on 2nd)

YesSirICanBoogie · 03/11/2008 14:07

Phew! I'm so concerned I'll creep back up to the size I was but after several months of will-power and dieting, I'm now starving! I've got my scan later and all going well, I'll head out tomorrow and buy some maternity jeans. Thank you!

Oh don't diet when you are pregnant - just eat sensibly. Your baby doesn't need you to be starving.

Seriously, eat properly. You can lose the weight after you have had the baby. As long as you eat sensibly, you shouldn't put too much on anyway.

WorzselMummage · 03/11/2008 14:33

First pregancy 22/3 weeks
this prgnancy i'm 19 weeks and still in some of my normal stuff and some maternity.
