Is it true you won't go into labour if rundown?

Please tell me it is so! Am 37+ weeks, loaded with the cold and my ds (22 months) has just come down with chickenpox! Luckily both me and DP have had it before, so should be immune. But I haven't slept well for weeks and feel like absolute crap - and am paranoid that I'm going to top it all by going into labour - please tell me your body knows better than to do that!

I have heard that this is true, but whether it is an old wives' tale I have no idea.

I guess the odds for you are that you wouldn't probably have the baby for another week or two anyway?

Absolutely lollipop, and thanks for reminding me - I think it is paranoia that's getting the better of me!

DH and I both had very heavy colds when I was due with number 3. Every day we said the baby couldn't come and she didn't... for 2 whole weeks. One day DH said the baby could come but changed his mind by lunchtime. The day that DH said it would be ok if the baby wanted to make an appearance was the day I went into labour! She was born at 42 weeks and was a super 9'5.

I've been seriously ill and givenbirth...2 weeks early!
Birth cured my illness bizarrly!!

When I was expecting dd1 I got myself in a real state as we were v delayed in putting her furniture together. I was only 35 weeks or so, but was ranting that I was about to go into labour. I never did go into labour, was induced at 41+3.

Hope all goes well for you. The chicken pox will be over in a few days, as will the cold. This time next week you will be starting another thread asking for tips on how to get things moving.

I'm convinced that a woman's body won't go into labour until her mind is ready, which jm54 sounds like yours isn't! So baby won't come until you're feeling a bit more human...

I hate to tell you this but I had Laringytus (sp?) and a REALLY heavy cold and I went into labour at 38+3........ Everyoe was telling me that baby would wait, body knows best etc etc, well, they were very wrong, turns out Baby knows best!

With both no.1 and no.2 I went into labout the evening after I'd tidied my ladygarden!

jm54 - DS3 arrived the day after DS2's last Chickenpox had scabbed over . I'd be stuck in the house for 4 weeks as DS1 had it first, the minute he was better DS2 came down with it.

I had the flu when I went into labour at 34 weeks with dd2.

I had actually gotten into bed fully clothed as I was a) freezing and b) to exhausted to get undressed, and about 10 min later my waters broke.

Watch out with the chickenpox - in those who have had it before it can come back as shingles - and you REALLY don't want to have shingles when you're in labour or with a new baby.
