Quick question - I'm off to a Japanese restaurant in a minute, can I have sushi?

DD is away for the night so DP and I have a (very rare) evening for ourselves. We're off to the local Japanese and I'd really like some sushi. Is it definitely off the menu? Is there anything else I should avoid there?

raw fish is off the menu if pregnant (sashimi)

sushi is OK though, I think

MrsMattie · 02/11/2008 17:15

Raw fish not reccommended. I'd be careful of cooked seafood, too.

compo · 02/11/2008 17:16

I would ask the waiter what is raw and what isn't
Or go somewhere more pregant women friendly

overbuurvrouw · 02/11/2008 17:17

Oh bugger! Absolutely and definitely? There is often raw fish in sushi isn't there? Or am I just showing my culinary ignorance?

sushi is the rice - so you could have sushi with meat/veg/cooked seafood?

overbuurvrouw · 02/11/2008 17:28

Thanks dinny!

They are very friendly so I'm sure they'll be able to suggest an alternative.

Oh no I have had awful MS and really craved sushi, I think it was more the ginger that I craved really but some salty soy with it really helped my nausea

dinny · 02/11/2008 17:55

I have just stopped feeling sick but the thought of raw fish makes it come flooding back!

Thanks everyone! We had a lovely evening and a delicious meal, I managed to avoid all the lovely sashimi and shellfish.

I'm now feeling extremely well rested after my first unbroken nights sleep in a year. Wonderful!

I'm only 9 weeks but the morning sickness has largely abated. Thank goodness

I realise I'm too late for you...but just in case anyone else is reading this. Sushi is fine in pregnancy!

Yes, I ate a lot of sashimi when pregnant - by law in this country it has to be frozen, and the only thing you could get from it is a parasite, which is killed in the freezing process.
