Would really like an amby baby hammock, but they're so expensive would be able to afford one if we saved but was wondering what you think of the cheapo hammock version here?!

Am slightly dubious as it is sooo much cheaper and part of me thinks that if you're going to save money, you shouldn't really do it on something so important as a bed. But the other half of me thinks the amby hammock is severely overpriced and overhyped for a stand and giant sleeping bag!

What do you all think? Has anyone had any experience of these beds before? Or should I stop being such a mean scrooge?

hmmm that's a very good point! Although feedback looks very good and it seems they sell quite a few. B ut will definatly (sp?) email them, thanks

Second hand nest was my original idea which is why I was looking on ebay (although still pricey if you factor in new mattress cost), but may end up doing so anyway... just safety wise I might feel better if it's 'brand' iykwim, but I HATE paying for a name on products lol!

I was gonna get an amby baby hammock but I rang the SIDS association for advice and they say they only recommend flat beds and this isnt flat. Just a thought... I'm sticking to a moses basket.

I have just bought the 'cheapy' you describe. I think that it will be fine tho I haven't opened it yet. I think the nature of commerce is that there will always be copies of things thatare pricey to begin with, I feel thatthese guys have seen an opportuntity and bought a load to sell cheaper but still make money.

Interesting about the sids advice cos that's not what it says on the amby website? What about the stuff that they have about them being used in children's hospitals?? Ooh no I am worried and confused now!!

Umlellala · 02/11/2008 18:41

oh i wish i hadnt seen this after spending a fortune on the amby one a couple of months ago !

cot is v comfy looking, and settles ds well. think the copy looks exactly the same - is it a company from China selling? maybe the same factory...

MissyK · 02/11/2008 19:03

I have bought this one, opened & set it up to make sure it's all ok - it looks great & exactly the same as my friends amby - apart from there being no amby logo!

firstontheway · 03/11/2008 11:53

Yay! Thanks Missy
Umlellala... not to worry, can always sell it for a fortune on ebay in 6 months or so!

I haven't heard that advice from SIDS before either, but guess it makes sense as realistically they have to advise from evidence based research, and I suppose not a huge amount of people use them. But I'm a neonatal nurse and we use them in the scbu where I work, particulary for drug dependent/ withdrawing babies, they're very good at soothing irritable babes off to sleep. I was a little worried at first about back development, but have asked all the paed consultants and they have said it will be fine. But will use a flat surface for napping in the day anyway.

Hi,

Has anyone else bought the cheaper version yet? Did it have instructions with it?
Many thanks,
Karen x

Bump!

MissyK · 26/11/2008 10:14

Hi, I posted earlier on this thread.
Yes I bought this, & have set it up to check it's all ok, (it looks great by the way) it comes with complete & easy to follow instructions. HTH

claireybee · 26/11/2008 10:24

Oh I wish I'd seen these when ds was tiny, I really wanted an amby for him but couldn't justify the cost when I already had a crib and a cot and didn't know for sure that it was going to help with his unputdownableness. Would have got one and tried it at this price though!

klj78 · 01/12/2008 23:45

Hi,

Thanks for replying ! I have ordered mine now.I too didn't want to spend so much money, when my other 3 babies all ended up in bed with me lol !! Each time I've promised dh faithfully that I will try and get baby settled in their own bed for at least some of the night. Hopefully this will work with number 4 - poor dh spent 6 months sleeping on a mattress on the floor last time !! fingers crossed though, hey!!
