ledodgy · 30/10/2008 17:24

Nipple tweaking worked for me and my waters broke the night I had a chicken madras so maybe not an old wives tale after all!

tinkisbigandinneedofzzzzzzzzz · 30/10/2008 17:53

*curry - hotter the better
*sex

good luck

mum2bean · 30/10/2008 18:49

i have tried everything. i am actually in the early stages of labour, i have been since sunday! and i have tried castor oil, sex, stairs, hot curry's, raspberry tea.... the list is endless.
still waiting....

SpringySunshine · 30/10/2008 19:38

I've read that you should stay off the castor oil - I think it can cause you to poo quite a lot in labour

mum2bean · 30/10/2008 19:50

yep, stay away from castor oil. did not bring out the baby, but something else .......
not good.

SpringySunshine · 30/10/2008 19:52

Congratulatons though, mum2bean - so close! I hope everything goes smoothly for you & baby... & soon!

expatinscotland · 30/10/2008 19:55

having a sweep at 40+2, sunday here.

i am fucking FED UP of this.

they will also schedule my induction at the CLU for 40+12 for me at the sweep appointment.

can't wait!

mum2bean · 30/10/2008 19:56

thanks i hope so too, the sooner the better, but i am now drinking yet more raspberry tea and some pineapple, so maybe this combination will work really well!

Honeymoonmummy · 30/10/2008 20:05

Check out this old classic thread... it may not work but its rather amusing...

I KNOW you're desperate to meet your baby but I'd recommend NOT doing anything to encourage labour. Baby will come when good and ready and any interfering with it can cause stop start labour that will leave you knackered, not good.

Risks of hot curries and castor oil is that it will give you the Sh1ts, and could possibly affect baby too, which then means they want to closely monitor, which then might lead to further intervention, yada yada yada.....

If you HAVE to do something then I'm with Lulumama, use natural hormones - nipple stimulation, sex, walking, relaxation.

Be aware that you do not have to be chemically induced. You can decline and opt for Expectant Management instead

flimflammum · 30/10/2008 20:09

I would recommend acupuncture from someone experienced in this field. Worked for me I think, although you can never know if it would have started anyway. But also helped with the baby's position.

Also take a deep breath and allow your body to take over, not your mind.

Good luck!

poppy34 · 30/10/2008 20:12

agree with flimflam -esp re the experienced bit (I went to someone who is not my normal practitioner and wasn't as good)

mum2bean · 30/10/2008 20:13

i have learnt my lesson for castor oil, and wouldn't recommend it to an enemy, let alone as a way to induce a labour.
am going to walk up and down my stairs and see what that brings, and drink my tea, and that is all i will be swallowing!

CatIsSleepy · 30/10/2008 20:14

go and stay at someone else's house for the night
you are bound to wake up at 5 in the morning with your waters breaking all over their bed
worked for me

expatinscotland · 30/10/2008 20:14

can't afford accupuncture or reflexology.

going to have to go for more curry

mum2bean · 30/10/2008 20:16

good idea catissleepy, but all of my "friends" have barred me from their houses as i tidy up all of their stuff!

hf128219 · 30/10/2008 20:16

About 50 pineapples.

poppy34 · 30/10/2008 20:17

nipple tweaking far better than acupuncture imho.. although did bring on contractions very fast

poppy34 · 30/10/2008 20:17

mum2bean you're more than welcome round here

CatIsSleepy · 30/10/2008 20:19

yes yes come here! tidying up? what's not to like?!

mum2bean · 30/10/2008 20:21

poppy34, i have my marigolds and mop ready!
