Where can I get a nuchal scan privately?

Hi just wondering if anyone knew where I could access a list of accredited clinics that carry out nuchal scans? I'm in the Midlands.
Also, is it possible to have a dating scan done on NHS and then a private nuchal scan. Bit confused about all the onfo on the net.

I got my nucal fold scan done at a BUPA hospital. I think your nhs maternity dept can give you details of private hospitals in your area.

I had a private nuchal scan at roughly 12 weeks. Ring your local BUPA hospital, I don't think you even have to be referred. The routine dating scan was at about 18 weeks, on the NHS.

They do them in this private clinic which is in the Midlands: www.mums.me.uk

You just ring and make an appointment. Costs are on the website.

I am having a 4D scan there next week - will let you know what its like if you're interested!

There are lots. Ask your midwife, ours gave us a list.
Leyton Hospital in Crewe, Birmingham women's (I think that's what it's called?). We had a private nuchal and an NHS scan too.

I had a nuchal scan done privately in Cambridge, can recommend it depending on where in the Midlands you are.

I didn't have to be referred, just phoned up and made the appointment.

The NHS hospital decided to cancel my dating scan at 13 weeks as it would have been done just after the nuchal - they were happy to accept the dates from the nuchal. Bear in mind there is a small window of opportunity for the nuchal scan to be done, the risk for me was that without a dating scan beforehand, they would first date the baby and could potentially have discovered it was too late for the scan to be done. Not a problem if you are sure of your dates as I was.

I then went on to have my anomaly scan at the NHS hospital at 20 weeks - I needed to have the nuchal scan results with me so they could fill in the appropriate bits in my notes. But it didn't seem to create too many problems.

Button moon,
I was tatoally scared of doing a nuchal exam. Not the exam itself, but I keep hearing how important is to have the right machine and a good tech, and didn't want to end up with odds that made more nervous than confident, if you know what I mean...
I decided to go all the way down to London, to the center for fetal medicine. It is a charity run by Dr. Nokolaides, whom created and developed the test. Its a fancy place, but amazingly enough much cheaper than the local BUPA! I was very impressed with them, and highly recommend it if you are willing to do the trip!

If you look on here you shoudl be able to find a place near to where you live. Cheaper than BUPA as well, I found.

Thanks guys! I have been on the fetal med website and found a couple of places that do them locally and will be in touch with them soon. Hoping that as they are accredited by them that they should be of a fairly similar and reassuring standard.
Holly-Would love to know what you think...hope it goes well.

For Nuchal Scans contact HealthHarmonie in Birmingham www.healthharmonie.co.uk

mosschops30 · 06/04/2009 15:05

I had an early dating/viability scan at Bupa
Having my NHS dating scan as usual at 12 weeks
Then having private nuchal back at Bupa

You can have what you want as long as you pay for it
