Can backache be a sign of early labour?

Hi im 38+3 weeks and i went to bed last night and kept getting weird pains in my lower back, i wouldnt describe it as general backache i cant explain the feeling. I am struggling with housework i used to be able to clean house top to bottom in 2 hours and now i get as far as carrying a washing basket upstairs or just hoovering one room then my back pains come back, has anyone had this or know if its a sign of early labour?

It cam be shelli....I'm 38+2 and have had backace on and off for a few days now, usually accompanied by really bitey braxton hicks contractions.

Mine is sort of lower pelvis area and is all round and into my thighs rather than just my back.

Yes, it was the first sign with me both times.

Yes it comes and goes but when i sit and rest its not so bad i just feel like such an invalid!! LackaDAISYcal sounds like its the start 4 u 2...good luck, don't you just wish it could happen and get over with..just want to hug the little tinker!! x

When my contractions started, it was all in the back area. No one tells you that this can happen and is normal, as I always had the idea labor was like hyper bad period cramps.

TBH, not sure anyone can tell you whether it will be a long or short labor as it could suddenly speed up, or slow down and all sorts of combinations in between...

You have someone with you or on the other end of a phone line?

I mentioned this on a thread the other night; I just wish I knew that it would start and that there would be a definate timescale for it.....all this "is it, isn't it?" gets very tiring. My hubby works away and I'm terrified to keep calling him about how things are incase he doesnt believe me when it finally does kick off (the pregnant lady who cried wolf!!)

what's worse is that this is my third pregnancy but the only one I'll have had a spontaneous labour with.

Anyhow, try to conserve your energy shelli, incase things are starting and if you have a birthing/exercise ball, bouncing gently on that helps ease my backache, as does leaning over it on my knees.

Awww im sure he would rather you phone him, even if it is a false alarm at leastat he will know what to expect!! I have just been sat here and got a really mild pain in my lower left of tummy and wondering if it is labour, i wish i knew! xx

For the past week.

Am 39 weeks, however.

Still no labour.

he's obviously just too comfy in there expat

have you tried all the "tried and tested" labour inducing remedies? I'm going to tie DH to the bed and jump on him tomorrow when he gets back from his fishing weekend; tis time for a mercy shag I think

I know I'm only 38 weeks but I've had enough of this one....I feel like an old woman!
