Pregnancy

4 hours in A&E last night at 14 weeks... I'm petrified!

Talk about a downer... i was in the middle of that cool new movie with Brad Pitt and George Clooney last night when the abdominal pain I'd been feeling all day suddenly escalated to unbearable levels... Felt like period pain x 1000 (8 on a scale of 1-10, hot burning cramps but no bleeding, thank goodness...)

With panicked hubby driving to hospital like a Schumi wannabe, and the nurses in A&E whisking me through to the back at a rate of knots, I felt really scared... They checked my temperature (too high), booked me in, got a few consultants around to have a prod and sent me home with painkillers for a scan this afternoon.

Needless to say I'm terrified - I know that because I have had nasty endometriosis in the past I will experience more pain than the average woman as the womb stretches, but how much pain is normal and how much is not? The doctors seemed to think that there was something going on - am I losing little munchkin before I've had a chance to know him or her?

Scan is at 15h30 - I'll let you know how it goes...

Good luck with the scan. I had something similar at 14 weeks, and they scanned me there and then (luckily they had the facility to) because they thought I had appendicitis. Everything was fine though.

Fingers crossed it will be nothing to worry about.

Hi everyone and thanks for your support...

The scan showed a healthy, 14-3 week old baby who wasn't moving quite as much as the technician would have liked... but the heartbeat was strong, so that's a good thing!

The EPU has recommended bed rest and paracetamol for four days, so that gives me lots of time to troll MN... not too bad an outcome!

What a relief. FWIW, my dd never moved during scans. She was always asleep in a ball. During my anomoly scan the sonographer had to keep hitting my stomach to wake her up/move her. She would unfurl, stretch and curl back up again.

She is the most vivacious and spirited child (please read, never bloody stops moving).

I'm pleased for you.

Hey Kittycat8, so glad to hear that things looked good on your scan. After a horrendous pregnancy with constant rushing into AandE with bleeding and cramps, and terrible pain throughout, my beautiful ds arrived [five weeks early] absolutely fine, safe and well. It was worth every minute of the pain and discomfort - so much so that now that he is just two I am thinking of going through it all again!
Best of luck, and make the most of every doctors order to chill out with your feet up!

Hey Kittycat8, glad to hear everything looked good on your scan, for what it's worth I had 2 months of bed rest from about 15 weeks, following horrid abdo pain and a bleed...was terrified...I'm 39+4 now and wishing her out!
