Help! I have red itchy patches on my eyes...

I have had weird red itchy patches on my eyes for a day or two now. The itching is getting more intense and the patches are spreading.

It is no where else on me, i have never had anything like it before.

I don't know if it is related but my asthma has reared it's ugly head having been gone for almost 8 years.

Is it excema? Am i contagious? Gah!

Yes, probably eczema. It's the only place I ever get it (and it only started when I hit 40!) but apparently it's remarkable common to get it on your eyelids.

I disappeared to the bath with cucumber last night. It looks worse this morning, i am also all puffy now.

Blooming in pregnancy my fecking arse...

I am going to see the midwife this morning and make an appointment with the doctor.

i get the eyelid thing but also have excema in other places too. the only thing i've found that works is cutting down (if not out if you can) sodium laureth sulphate which is in most shampoos and shower gels/bath stuff. i used to walk round looking like a panda (although a red one rather than black and white) at times till i tried that and although i still have excema elsewhere, it seems to stop the flare ups on the eyelids - just a pain in the ass for buying toiletries though.

FWIW, LG&T, DH's asthma has been playing up. He never normally needs his inhaler, but he's needed it a few times a day recently. A friend of ours has been the same. Not sure what's causing it though. Maybe a low grade viral thing???

Since excema is closely linked with asthma (systemic reaction to an antigen), I wouldn't be surprised if your excema will settle once the asthma does.

Thanks for the replies, i have come to the conclusion i am allergic to girls. I was never like this with the boys. DD is excluded as she had none of the girly hormones due to her Turners Syndrome.

I am 28 weeks, what body irritation will i come out with next? By god she had better be good and cute and an easy labour for all this

Is it definitely eczema? I am the queen of ecezema.
Avoid a lot of dyes and perfumes. Even handling laundry with a lot of bleach makes my hands break out.

Shower and wash your face with water that is as cool as you can stand it.

Get a good moisturizer without dyes or perfumes for sensitive skin,

Soap with dyes and perfumes will also irritate it.

My eczema totally flared when I was pregnant with ds2. Especially in these cold dry months it's worse.

Oh put a humidifier by your bed when you sleep. It may help.

i am not a fan of aqueous cream and ( i think i'm right in saying) that it is not recommended by the National Excema Society because of a preservative in it - but with skin I have found (as a life long sufferer of excema which i have now unfortunately passed onto my ds, its all about trial and error until you find a cream that works for you.

if it doesnt clear up though VASTlargegin, go back cause the aqueous cream will only moisturise, not clear up any other problem on the skin.

disclaimer - i have no actual medical knowledge just my own experience to go on.

MKG - sounds like we have similar skin problems - with ds, my excema almost disappeared - it was amazing, but came back pretty quickly. This time round it hasnt gone yet - I keep waiting for it too, but am 14 weeks, so would have thought if it was going to go, would have done so by now.

oh well.

VAST - am slightly prone to eczema, but for the second time round, much worse in pregnancy. Have also got those itchy patches on my eyelids. Last time round I found that using a decent natural eye cream did eventually clear them up...

I have Diprobase not the aqueous stuff, it just feels like heavy cream but has not taken the itch away.

I will stop using all make up, only wear tinted moisturiser anyway. No mascara nowt (feel naked) I can feel it on different parts of my face now too. Gah! The Doc did offer some antibiotics and steroid cream but in the same breath said not really recommended for pregnant women. I delcined.

I shouldnt whinge really, i know lots of you have it terribly all the time. It just feels like one thing after another this week. Thank you for replying

Vast - i definitely wouldnt use diprobase - makes my skin worse, not better, and ds reacts to it too. not sure if i missed the shampoo thing - was it on another thread or am i just not reading it properly.

anyway - if you've just started using a new shampoo - can almost guarantee that that is the answer - sorry if you love it - i love nice smelling shampoos, but pretty much have to stick to two brands to avoid getting the red eyes - doesnt matter that its just on your hair - seems to get to your eyes easily enough in the shower, and so best to just avoid all together.

hopefully it should clear up in a few days without needing other cream.

It may be seborrheic dermatitis, I had this on my eyelids and some mornings it looked like I had been crying. It took along time to be diagnosed until I saw a skin specialist who had it also. Anyway I was prescribed Nizoral cream and in went away really quickly. Stress is a factor and it can run in families..

I had sarted using a new shampoo about 2 weeks ago, the rash appeared this week. Still connected do you think?

The Diprobase feels nice, but i still itch. It looks no worse and i have no more weird patches appear. I will stop using the shampoo just in case.

I am stressed, i have 6 children dontcha know and am pregnant which means i can't drink the required amount of Gin needed to get me through bath time

sounds like the shampoo then cause with me it doesnt appear immediately either (imh non medical opinion of course).

6 kids and one on the way - respect to you. and yes gin does sound like a necessary part of the day - i too am pg and am really missing a nice glass of wine this time much more than when pg with ds.

When are you due Conker? I am due in January, the tree will be away before she comes out

due in april - am convinced its a girl this time cause of the skin being different and not feeling as sick etc - it was almost a good enough reason on its own to get pg again to get rid of the itchiness!
