Hi all, I'm currently 9 weeks pregnant with my 3rd dc. Ist preg, 19 years ago, was a breeze, 2nd preg, 2 years ago was tough, but mainly in the latter stages. This current preg I feel unbelievably ill...

I can't sleep for more than 4 hours, horrible nausea, bone crunching exhaustion...how I manage to stumble through each day (though for most of it I'm welded to the settee) i'll never know. I'm in bed no later than 6.30pm most nights as I physically cannot function any more. I'm at my wits end and I've tried almost everything, including very expensive acupuncture...to no avail.

Is there anybody else who feels like this? Or should I be worried? Is it normal?

All replies very gratefully appreciated

I felt very like this in the first trimester of my current pregnancy. Luckily it was early summer and there was a few weeks of lovely weather so my DD's (pre-school) could happily play outside for hours in the sunshine, following which I'd let them watch far more tv than was good for them just so I could lie on the sofa.

I'd literally have to give them a bath in a washing up bowl downstairs as I was just too tired to get them upstairs to the bath!

It didn't lift completely in the second trimester but it did improve. I still felt tired but I gradually adjusted to the pregnancy, felt less sick - managed to get on with things a bit more.

Hope it gets better for you soon! I do sympathise it's horrible!

Hi there,

Sorry you're feeling so rubbish. What's waking you up so often, do you know? Is it needing the loo, or not being comfortable?

Have you been to see your GP about it? You might be lacking in iron or something?

If you've got a toddler though, it must be exhausting managing whilst pregnant! I'm really tired all the time and I've got no kids yet. xx

Hi,

Sorry youre feeling so bad.

I'm in my 2nd pregnancy now & its loads different from the first where I had no probs. This time its nausea all the way from morning till night, hard to cope with DS (3) & its knackering.

Maybe you need to deal with the lack of sleep first then the other things will be manageable. What has your midwife said about it? Can she help? I would say that this level of exhaustion is not normal my love.

I am on DC3 too (28+6 now) and had a terrible first trimester, much like yours, totally incapacitated much of the time.

I know you said you have tried almost everything, but the thing that made a difference for me was Floradix. You can get it from health shops and some chemists. It's a herbal iron substitute, often recommended by midwives. It has the advantage of not causing digestive problems like conventional iron supplements and is really good for helping with exhaustion. I have also started taking daily Yakult for the probiotics and find that as long as I remember to take them both the combination seems to really help when I am exhausted.
