More anaemia worries...hospitalised thursday!!

I posted the other day worried about the effects of anaemia as my count at last test was 8.5 and i was getting worse. The docs called me back the day after my blood was taken and he couldnt believe i was still walking as my hb was down to 4.7 !! He said there was no choice and i needed to be admitted to hospital straight away for a transfusion...so thursday went in. When they did bloods at the hospital they were concerned but apparantley a transfusion was no good as my anaemia is down to vitamin b12 deficiency and i need injections every 2 daays and folic acid tablets too. They have let me home now but i am still non the wiser as to what caused it and how long it will take for my hb to get back to normal as i am now 35 weeks!!

Anyone know about vit b12???

im also really worried as to how this can affect baby???

Vit b12 helps you make hemaglobin in the red cells. You need to find out why you can't absorb B12 from your food. With the injections you will have an increase in b12 & they should monitor with regular blood tests to see a rise in hb. Once your levels are back to normal you might need to have b12 injections afterwards every so ofton - depends on the cause of b12 deficiency. Ask your docs what has caused this & what will happen in the future. Best wishes.

Get it straight from your docs - have they said anything on this? ask them to check up on your baby so you wont worry. I have B12 probs as I don't have all the intestine to absorb it & in preg get loads of blood tests to keep an eye on levels. Was anaemic when I gave birth though & had a pph (due to retained placenta) which took longer to recover from due to low iron levels & stores. All the best with this.
