Positve then Negative Pregnancy Tests?

Hi All,

Well I had a bleed, shorter then a normal period and not quite as heavy but on the day I was due my AF 32 days. (can be anything from 28 to 32) This stopped after two days. Then 5 days later I had very slight spotting not a lot at all and only visible after wiping. So I took a pregnant test that showed up positive at 11:00am. Then I took the second one at 4pm that was also positive. Then I went and brought two digital ones and did one the next morning that said not pregnant. Then did the second one at 6pm and it said pregnant 1-2 weeks.

I booked a Drs appointment for the next day (Friday) and took a sample of my morning urine this also came up negative. I waited to the Sunday and bought one more which i took at 11:00am and again this came up negative.

What do you think is going on? I thought if I had miscarried I would have had a bleed after the positive test but haven't. The Dr was really un helpful and said try again in a week or wait for your next period.

What I was thinking is that I was pregnant but then had a 'chemical pregnancy' but still confused to why a got a positive 9 days after I had the short bleed.

Help!

I had a similar experience a few months ago...had a faint positive then many negatives. Went to GP who retested and it was negative, but the also did a blood test for HCG and I returned in a week for another blood test. It turned out I wa spregnant and am now nearly 20 weeks!

Some poeple don't produce as much HCG as others, and some not as early as others!

So it is possible as you got a positive result after small bleed and have not bled since, but I would also ask the doctor to do a blood test for HCG just to be sure as if they test you twice they can see if levels (if any) are rising or falling).

I have heard that you can get a false neg but not a false pos...perhaps the tests had different sensitivities so not picking up enough preg hormones in your urine.

Maybe do try again in a couple of days (as hormones levels will pick up) and use your first wee of the day.

Hi Cazza28. I'm not an expert but it sounds like you are pregnant but your hcg levels ahven't built up enough to register on the drs test. The initial short bleed sounds a bit like implantation bleed to me. Unfortunatly all you can do is wait a week or two more. Maybe do another blood test and see.
Try not to worry (I know how rubbish this last piece of advice is but do try)

Thank you all! It is just so frustrating I have been off the pill for about 16 months and got so excited but now am so confused. I know i just have to wait will just have to keep everything crossed

hi cazzy i know how you feel cuz same thing is hppening me, did 5 pregnancy tests on 24/10 all positive then did one on 29/10 negative then went to early pregnancy clinic and it was negative, then came home and have did 2 more since and theyve been positive, so confused right now...........

hiya cazza- this also sounds a bit like me. I did a test yesterday and it was (I think), a very, very faint positive, but I still have a mirena coil in place.

Well it turns out that i wasn't pregnant came on a heavy AF 27th oct! But that hasn't stopped me trying again. Got some cheap ovulation test kits and just had a positive today so off for some fun later!

Fingers crossed! I am hoping i get my BFP soon!
