Flying at 11weeks pregnant

I'm ok to fly on a short haul flight aren't I? I'll be 11 weeks when we fly and ok, I do have a history of mc, but I've never thought it would be a problem to do this. My SIL just thought she'd "say something" and I know she means well and all, but people fly in the early weeks all the time, don't they?

I flew to Oz at about 17 weeks with no probs.

Hi ladyhelen2. I'm pretty sure people fly a lot, yes. You can fly up to quite late on in pregnancy I think. I guess there might be a concern with long-haul flights if there's a history of DVTs in the family perhaps.

If you're worried, ask your antenatal unit or GP. xx

i flew in an air ambulance with dh when i was 11 weeks - i made a point of telling the paramedics i was pregnant as i had no idea what to do - they rolled their eyes at me and weren't at all bothered. it's only much later in pg that you need a 'fit to fly' so they can be reasonably sure you aren't going to pop mid air (from 32 weeks for some airlines). you do need to think about where you are going though, and what would happen if the worst case scenario happened... i'm guessing if you are going short-haul then you're in europe and not the back of beyond, so med care would be available in any case. don't fret, you're fine, and no need to mention it.

I think it's just later on that they worry - and then only because the airline doesn't want the responsibility of delivering a baby mid-air.

YOu see, I knew all this! I flew long haul at 6 weeks with DS1 but before that DH and I flew to Rome and sadly I had a mc there. I know it was nothing to do with flying! Its just my SIL being a midwife and all, she felt it her place to say something. I am under a consultant and DH wants me to phone her and ask, but I just don't want to waste this busy lady's time with such a minor worry.

oh, now i feel silly for mentioning... sorry about your earlier experiences ladyh. i flew a lot short haul subsequently and even long haul up to 32 weeks with no problems. call the airline if you feel the need, but their policy is probably on the website. or you could just call and ask how many weeks you are allowed to fly up to, without a doctor's certificate? it'll be in the 30's, but if it outs your sil's mind at ease...
if your sil is a midwife, surely she should know better than to worry pg women with this stuff?!

and know even better not to bother consultants with this stuff! is she your mw?
