Raised Blood Sugar

I saw my midwife about 2 weeks ago and had blood taken. I got a letter saying I had raised blood sugar levels and I need a fasting blood test done, which I had on Monday.

I haven't been told what this could mean or when I'll get the results.

Any ideas?

Its a blood glucose test which is a test to check for gestational diabetes. But there are sometimes reasons for a raised blood glucose level in your original test, so a raised random test is not diagnostic in itself, so they do the fasting test, which is more accurate.

They will probably take a blood test when you get there, get you to drink a cup of lucozade or glucose drink and take another blood test in 2 hours. Result for this is usually later that day or next day. If its above a certain level they will diagnose you with gestational diabetes. See this link for more info.

I had the blood test on Monday and it was just a normal test. I was expecting to have to drink some Lucozade etc but I didn't.

Thanks for that link.
