Any nurse/doctor/midwife/medical person around to answer a question for me?

I am 36 week pregnant and leucocytes showed up in my urine sample the other day but midwife said it was not anything to be concerned about - probably just due to not being able to empty bladder properly. Some of the results were back today and showed 'lots of debris', leucocytes over 100, red blood cells 10 but she said there was a sensitivity test still to come back and we would decide what to do then, just drink more water and try cranberry juice til then. DD was shouting for attention so didn't get to ask what it all means. Can anyone help me out? I'm feeling a bit worried now.

Could possibly be a UTI, also could be contamination from a show or normal vaginal mucous. If you aren't experiencing any symptoms I think you have been advised wisely to wait for the culture to come back.

does sound like a urinary tract infection. Leucocytes are white blood cells that are produced during an infection, but they can also be found in urine during pregnancy even if there's no infection. Red blood cells in the urine could also be a sign of infection.

Do you have any pain on urination? Burning, frequency, a feeling of not being able to empty your bladder? ANy lower back pain?

Drinking more water is good, but I would probably phone the midwife and ask for further advice.

just seen that you are awaiting the urine culture results. Curlywurly is right, wait until those results are back.

Hi there I ALWAYS have leucocytes in my urine and have had urine sent off loads during this pregnancy (am a nurse and used to test my urine at work bit of a worrier) my urine always comes back clear I think in my case it is vaginal contamination, like you I get no symptoms, try not to worry wait until you get results back and increase your fluid intake. As Belgo says they are white blood cells produced during infection but if you have a (poss TMI) vaginal discharge it can show up too. The red blood cells could also either be a sign of a UTI or from the vagina if you have had a small bleed. Hope you are ok take care x
