Have read so much about not needing to 'eat for two' at least until the third trimester but I am only 6 weeks and absolutely starving all the time (well apart from the hour after breakfast when I feel sick !!)

I have a big appetite anyway but for the last 3 days I have been consuming enormous quantities of food.

Am worried that I am gonna end up the size of a house if I carry on like this for the next 8 months....should I try to resist or just give in because my body is telling me I need more food?

PS: I am a fairly average 5ft 4 size 12 but eat as much as my husband normally....so I reckon I am blessed with a very fast metabolism anyway....could it just be that it has speeded up

Yes me! Especially in the first 12 weeks. I was literarily constantly eating except when asleep. I've gone from a size 14/14 to a 14/16. Even now at over 15 weeks, I'm still thinkign of what to eat all the time because of the nasty taste in my mouth.
I'm also averaging 2.5 liters of water everyday!

yes me
am especially starving in the morning-have to eat something as soon as I get to work
then again at about 10.30
and am ready for lunch by about 11.30 but force myself to wait til 12
then I have a massive lunch and the afternoon is ok...well as long as I keep snacking...

Hi
I was also starving almost all the time during first 12wks, and this linked to the morning sickness, but now at 17wks I feel better, but definately put weight on quickly during that time.

It will probably slow down in 2nd trimester.. although all my books say I should be starving now, which Im not (not all the time anyway!)

Hi again CSV

chinchi · 08/10/2008 16:45

Me!

Im 30 weeks today and have had the same feeling throughout this pregnancy. Thankfully I can still fit in most of my old tops, although the maternity pants are having trouble staying up!

I eat whenever the urge comes to be honest! Ill worry about the weight loss later

savoycabbage · 08/10/2008 16:45

I once had a pie and mashed potato and 9.30 in the morning........I was hungry constantly.

I did put on a lot of weight though! I was eight stone and I went to twelve. Which is lots! But I was hungry all of the time. With my second I tried to do more exercise so that I would not gain as much weight. It is awful when you are eight months and you are the size of a barge.

Can people show me pics of their bump at 16 weeks? I'm obsessing over whether mine's big enough.
Also, did anyone find that their bumps got bigger as the day progressed?

CatIsSleepy · 08/10/2008 16:49

LOL -my bump is definitely much bigger in the evening

MarkStretch · 08/10/2008 16:50

I am starving all the time too.

I find myself having an evening snack as I'm still hungry after dinner!

There's a bump pic on my profile at 16 weeks CS7.

I figure this is one of the few times in your life you can stuff your face and not care....

CS7 · 08/10/2008 16:50

Thanks CatIsSleepy - I keep wondering if that's my imagination!

bogie · 08/10/2008 16:51

I was always starving with dd I ate constantly, but with ds I struggled to eat anything.

MarkStretch · 08/10/2008 16:51

And yes I seem to expand over the day, The physio I saw said it's because you over compensate with your posture as the day goes on.

CS7 · 08/10/2008 16:52

Thanks MarkStretch- your bump looks much bigger than mine (at 15+5 today), I think I'll get DH to take a pic and I'll put it on here.

CS7 · 08/10/2008 16:53

Oh that makes sense MarkStretch. In fact I'll get him to take 2- one in the morning and one in the evening.

MarkStretch · 08/10/2008 16:54

It is my second though CS7 and I was a size 14 before I was pregnant. I think it depends a lot on your make and build! Don't worry about it though, I'm sure towards the end you'll be waddling and huffing about with everyone else!

CS7 · 08/10/2008 16:55

Oh so looking forward to that MarkStretch, I really am.

Myneaux · 09/10/2008 09:04

thanks for the reassurance everyone...DH thinks I have worms !

Have now got a whole drawer full of snacks at work...am finding the little packs of raisins are great (tho not sure eating them every half an hour is entirely a good idea).

Even if I wanted to resist I havent got the willpower...so to hell with it !

Now where did I put that bar of chocolate

I have this problem too. I am really worried about what my colleagues think of me as all I do is eat all day. I'm making sure I stick to healthy food, and at 15 weeks I've only put on 4lb so I'm not going to worry about it too much.

1stMrsF · 10/10/2008 16:59

Have you got morning sickness Myneaux? I was eating like a horse before I started feeling sick and now my appetite seems to be a bit more normal - eating more often during the day but not so much and not so starving all the time (9 weeks tomorrow)
