hi - i've just had elective for ds ten days ago, 17 months after em cs for dd.
I think it makes a difference how long you have between pregnancies and how big your baby is.
Like previous posters, the last thing I wanted was to have to spend hours in labour and then have the panic of an emergency cs. My doctor said if it was anything other than a textbook delivery, they would end up doing a cs. I hummed and hahhed for the whole nine months, wanting to do the whole empowered woman thang, but in the end it was predicted that he was so big, it would make a textbook delivery very unlikely. He was 9lbs 5oz at 39 weeks.
This birth was so much calmer and happier than the last. I was able to cuddle him right away. I bf'd him within the first hour.
Soooo... yes, I feel judged by my sister in law (why are sister in laws so judgemental? And why are other people generally so invested in the way you give birth? It's not their prob is it?) and I have a tiny .05 per cent wish that I had done it 'properly', given all the cultural baggage and sneery 'too posh to push' stuff. And yes, I'm a bit sore and sorry that I can't give my toddler huge swinging, scar-bursting hugs for the next few weeks... but I know I did the right thing for me. It was the only surefire way to avoid an emergency cs, and I'm not going to be pooing out of my front bottom anytime soon.
Good luck, and try not to make your decision about anybody but you.
