car seat question

Hello,
neither my husband and I can drive so obviously we don't have a car, but we realise that we should get a car seat for when the baby comes as if we do need to go in somebody's car we won't be able to.
A friend told me the other week that not all car seats are compatible with all cars so I don't know what to do now. Is this true?
There's no telling whose car we'd go in but my dad's is very different to my father in law's so I don't know what to do now!
Any advice much appreciated.

See if your local council has a road safety officer. He/she should be able to give up to date impartial advice.

It is true that nto all carseats fit in all cars. Although many will fit in most cars.

If you go to the Britax webpage they have a "fitfinder" - you could see if there are any Britax seats which will fit in the cars you are most likely to use.

Bear in mind though that this is a guide...

and sorry, yes it is true about not all car seats being compatible but some might be more generic than others.

My Mum's car (Hyundai Getz) has a shorter than normal seat belt, and apparently this is the most common fitting problem. We got a Britax Rock-a-tot from Mothercare. Apparently this goes with practically everything. Only about 70 quid.
