With DS2, DH was given some essential oils by the midwife to rub into my back during labour, it was lovely! I am going to a different hospital this time though so not sure if they'll be available so was going to take my own, does anyone have any idea what might have been used as I can't remember for the life of me!

Clary sage can help regulate contractions and is slightly sedative so can work a bit like G&A in the early stages for some people. It has a very distinctive smell though so is best mixed with something else.

Lavender oil is another uterine stimulant that is quite relaxing

Jasmine oil is also lovely.

To save some typing here is a more comprehensive list

Don't forget to mix them in a carrier oil such as sweet almond

Most are available from boots or nealsyardremedies.

Don't forget to do a spot test on your wrist early on in labour or very late in pregnancy to make sure you don't have a bad reaction. The last thing you need is itchy skin or a rash to add to your labour discomfort.
