advice please...what can't i eat from this menu...very posh le manoir

would be very grateful if anyone can advice me what not to eat. special night out and i don't want to offend anyone by coughing and spluttering and saying...erm....not sure. mr blanc might boot me out!

Well the Sea Bass tartare is uncooked and some folk might worry about that. Personally I'd still scoff it - very reputable establishment undoubtedly using the best quality suppliers and all that. Squid - well it isn't shellfish so not an issue. All else fine as long as you don't have any unpasteurised or blue cheese.

Am - soooo want to go there!

Oh and I used to inspect kitchens for a living so this is my advice based on my cherished Advanced Food Hygiene certificate!!

thanks very much for your reply...i did think tartare? as in raw? eek. and there is nothing worse then umming at a restaurant when uncertain.

its a real treat and the sort of place i would never be going to under my own steam so i really want to enjoy it...i wont be able to enjoy the wines either..just the mearest sip! but it will be wonderful none the less, unfortunately too the booking is rather late in the evening and i may be snoozing in my second course!

Hi I'm so jealous menu looks fantastic!.
I'm now 13.5 weeks and recently went out to a posh restaurant (not as posh as yours though) and decreatly phoned my pregnant sister and read out the menu to her. Its been 7 years since my last pregnancy and i couldn't remeber what you couldn't eat.

If you were really concerned you could ask for yours without the uncooked seabass, but I don't think you should worry too much about food poisoning here. I think a lot of his produce is actually grown there and his fish is going to be best quality. Remember he is french so the wonderful cheese is probably the very best unpasturised smelly stuff so i'd avoid that course. Shame as the french smelly cheeses are the best.

Ps If unsure then send it me in a doggy bag.

Hi Mummy I have been to Manoir when pg and they are very accomodating if you need to change anything you can't eat. Personally, I eat anything apart from liver ie no foie gras etc and unpasteurised cheese when at a restaurant of that quality. I would eat sea bass tartare myself.

I would also recommend a nice mint tea at the end to aid digestion (all that rich food - although not too rich compared to some place) and ask for the petit four to take home if you are full up.

yes it does look like heaven, esp. pudding!
i think i may ask for the soup without the seabass and i will look on enviously at the cheeses. the meal will probably finish around midnight, i'm going to be shattered, i think i will definately have to have a few hours sleep during that day.

ooh do you think i should? when am i going to have the opportunity to eat seabass tartare again? (never!)i'm with you about foie gras, i was worried it would be lots of that and veal which i wouldn't eat.

Had dinner there at our wedding anniversary in august when pg - it was divine. Wouldn't worry too much about anything on the menu.

A bit formal at first but we asked to have a stroll around the vegetable gardens before seated. It was magical. Enjoy!

When I went to the Waterside Inn (lucky girl that I am!) towards the beginning of my pregnancy I just told them at the start of the night that I was pregnant and they substituted the things I couldn't/shouldn't eat with things that I could. Went to the Manoir a few years back and DH doesn't eat any fish/seafood so they just swapped in alternatives for these courses without any problem. Enjoy (just thinking about it is making me hungry......)!

the gardens do look beautiful but it will be really dark outside when we arrive (to accomodate getting lots of little children down to sleep and travelling) which is unfortunate. was imagining saying to the waiter'yes bring me everything and your finest wines' and people saying 'are you sure really is that safe?' and me going 'umm dunno' errkk
