Worried - Please tell me about your ECV -

My baby has decided to turn footling breech at 37+ weeks. ECV booked for Tuesday. The MW who booked it wasn't able to tell me much

I have the added complication of suspected PE and I'm worried that the combination of the 2 will make the consultant biased towards a C-Section..

Can you tell me if you ECV was successful?

Did baby flip back again?

How long did they try to turn baby for?

How much did it hurt?

What monitoring to they carry out on mum.. I know they monitor the baby very closely?

Did you go on to have a successful vaginal birth?

Did you go overdue afterwards and end up with an induction

I'm wondering if I can get them to break my waters after the ECV as I'll be 38 weeks to prevent baby from flipping back

I don't know anything about ECV but just wanted to wish you luck ajm

they won;t break your waters to stop the baby flipping back, unless you need inducing immediately. once your waters are gone, you are on a countdown to deliver

you need to find out the success rate of the particular person doing the ECV for you

sometimes the baby does go back to breech, sometimes they stay head down..

some women say it is a bit uncomfy, some say it is really painful, you might be given meds to relax your uterus

I had one with DD. It was very sore and unfortunately unsuccessful and I went on to have a cs at 38+1. I was given an injection to relax my uterus they also prepped me for a cs which I think they do as a precaution.

The dr that did mine had a higher than average success rate but not with me. He said some women find it very sore others ask him if it's done after the event as they didn't feel much at all. DD was well and truly stuck, he tried 3 times and gave up. There are others on here that have had successful ecvs.

I was hoping that they'd be willing to start my labour off after the ECV or maybe within a day or two as I'm still under threat of an induction for the PE anyway

This am my BP was 157/105 with a pulse of 98! Its normally about 118/60 with a pulse in the 60's. If my BP is that high on Tuesday, I'm stuffed.

if that is the case you could dsicuss induction with them

what i mean is , if your BP is that high and you are under threat of induction anyway, then discuss the possibility of ECV followed by induction.

why not give your MW or the AN ward a call and see if you can talk through your worries with someone before oyu go in on tuesday, so you have a clearer idea of what is going on and wha the different possibilities and outcomes are

I tried talking to my friend who is a MW. She just said that personally she wouldn't bother with the ECV and would have a section but she has great family support.

If I have a CS I've got to manage the baby and a very boisterous toddler on my own from my first day back home. Both sides of the family are completely useless when it comes to any kind of support..

Baby has tried several times to turn herself over the weekend but only seems to get halfway before flipping back up. The guy who did my scan said she has one foot pushed well down in my pelvis and the other is flexed up so not good for a VB but she is small and i have lots of fluid so maybe favourable for the ECV but there is a risk of her turning back as she has lots of room.
The MW estimate of my bump is 33 weeks at almost 38 so don't know where all this room is.

I'm just terrified of hospitals and coping on my own post C-Section.

have you thought about a post natal doula t ohelp you after the birth?

I've thought about it but seriously doubt we could afford it. I gave up work to bring up DS.

student would be reasonable on price, especially if you were one of her first jobs.. start emailing local trainee doulas... you can only ask !

OK have read a few of the very old threads on this topic and it seems a lot of ECVs fail.

Baby spent all night (from midnight to 5am) trying to turn herself again, my tummy felt like it would split and she only got as far as my waist before giving up each time so will have to wait and hope ECV is good to me.
