What pram to get?

This is our first baby and we've started to look at prams...seems like a minefield!!! We like the Mamas and Papas'Skate'...anyone have one? Is it good? Why are Buggaboos so popular? We want a pram that will be great from birth onwards!...any advice would be appreciated

seeing as you have looked at those two i am guessing your budget is high?

bugaboo cameleons are great. comes with everything you need. seat faces both ways, reversable handle. steering is very light even with a toddler in it. fold is a bit fiddly to get used to, but is easy once you get the hang of it. customisation of it is endless. it does have to have the seat/carrycot removed to fold though. and does take up a bit of room in the car boot. so def not one for public transport all the time, or if you have a tiny car boot.

no idea on the skate. am not an mamas and papas fan.

If a cheaper pram can be recommended I'll def check them out...we're just wanting a good easy to use pram and a lot of them look so fiddly etc...why are you not a Mamas and Papas fan Misdee?

Ugg where will you you be using the pram? town / country / unpaved areas?

Do you want the seat to face you or use a carry cot?

I am not a fan of using a infant car seat as a facing mum solution on a pram.

Do you want compact fold or is boot size not a issue?

Wow..theres so much to think about!

I guess initially I would like the baby to face me (agree about the car seat thing, not too keen either) don't mind if it can't be used as a carry cot, we live in the country/unpaved etc...

Bugaboo is fantastic for walking around London a lot but when we go to Devon to see parents it's not great on bumpy unpaved lanes etc.
Think the Mountain Buggys are good for that?? Again, they are quite pricey. Baby isn't facing in the seat but would be in the carrycot.

Bugaboo is has two large tires (air-pumped) at the back, and so is great for uneven ground as well as pavements. You can also go up and down stairs with it really easily.

I'm definitely a fan.

Word of warning - bugaboo is ok for uneven ground but not for when it is muddy, covered in leaves etc, the small wheels get clogged up - I love my bugaboo bit it would be a pain if I was regularly going off road - mountain buggy etc with all large wheels would be better for regular off roaders

I'd agree. Not so much the uneven ground but the small wheels easily get clogged with mud and leaves

Bugaboo Chameleon all the way!
I've had (in the past) Mamas and Papas Pliko (rubbish), Graco (rubbish), Mamas and Papas MPX travel system (carrycot big and fantastic system for first 6 months but after that the pushchair seat is awkward and uncomfy). Bought the Chameleon instead as DD refused to get in the Mamas and Papas in the end she hated it so much!
Mamas and papas are quite flimsy, plasticky and not very good if something goes wrong. Both my prams from M&P had wobbly handles and bits that fell off/broke just AFTER the guarantee ran out!!! Hmmmm.
Love, love love my bugaboo. My only criticism (and this is a tiny thing) is that the small wheels do get clogged by mud. But I don't walk thro mud that often. Also not good for public transport as it doesn't fold in one piece (but again I use the car and just sling it in the boot. Most of the time I don't bother folding it up, just take the seat bit off and sling it in). DD loves it, so comfy, stylish, EASY to push with one hand, very light to push. Seat faces both ways, lies flat for comfy sleep and a big generous hood which is really cosy. Also can buy fabrics in different colours if you get bored with your original choice. Fabulous. Wish I'd bought one years ago and not wasted my money on all the rest!
The only other one I've had that was good when DD1 was older was a McLaren which we still use for holidays (flying etc you need one that folds in one piece). Can pick up a McLaren quite cheap though when your DC is older if you want one as well as your main pram. (Got mine in John Lewis sale for about £40 and that was 7 yrs ago - still use it occasionally!!)
Am pg now with DC3 and have no intention of looking for another pram (odd for me as I'm a pram addict!). I might change my fabrics for another colour but that;s it!
