20 week scan - how like are they to be able to tell me the sex?

I have my 20 week scan a week tomorrow . We've decided that we'd like to find out the sex - I didn't initially but sadly am very impatient and have no will power!! I know there is a possibility of them not being able to tell us anyway - does anyone know how likely this is? And, I'm sure this has been done before, but how often do they get it right or wrong....??

It depends what position your baby is in
If they say "boy" they are more likely to be right than if they say "girl" but might still be wrong.

Only have two children but they were able to tell me 100% of the time.

I also have 2, they were able to tell both times.

Both my pregnancies they couldn't tell me at the 20 week scan, they said the baby's legs were crossed/together.

same here with both of mine had legs crossed all the way through so couldnt tell.
due to pay to have a 3-d sexing scan on sat as deseparate to find out, i am going to drink a fizzy drink and have a chocolate bar before the scan to make sure that bean is moving lots

I'm desperate to find out too. I have to have growth scans, but because they are worried about the baby I'm no longer allowed to ask, and they don't tell me - seemed quite annoyed the last time I asked, which is fair enough. But it is really frustrating going for lots of scans and still not knowing. The baby is now far too big for me to be able to see on the scan.

yomellamoHelly · 02/10/2008 14:52

I've asked, and been told, both times. They were both correct. Both times they were very peeved sounding at being asked! Back for nr 3 now and there are various signs up in the waiting area and in the rooms making it clear it's not always possible to see.

CookieMonster2 · 02/10/2008 14:59

EBenes, they won't tell you because they are worried about the baby? That is madness, and seems very unfair.
I only had 1 growth scan last time, and I did ask if they could tell. She said she could tell because her legs were crossed but she didn't seem bothered about me asking.

They just said, 'We're not looking at that part, sorry', and I felt a bit shallow, as if I should be concerned about the health only. I thought they sounded cross, but it could also be total paranoia on my part. I had a lot of growth scans with my first, so am maybe not as worried as I should be now - and I am quite worried, but I also really want to know. It would help if I knew I had to buy new babygros etc, and I just really want to know!
