Hi there. I was overweight before becoming pregnant and although I am not too worried healthwise, I'm finding it a lttle dificult with regards to the showing thing. Having always wanted to avert peoples eyes from my stomach, I am not too happy at people wanting me to suddenly display my stomach for them to see and touch. Does anyone else feel like this?

I felt hated the idea of people thinking they could touch me when I was pg and didn't feel at all fat beforehand (did afterwards though ) I just loathed people thinking my body was public property, and I used quite strong body language to indicate that I wasn't for touching. At work, particuarly, I kept up a very brisk, professional veneer and if I asked how I was would just say, "Fine. Great. And you?" Obviously happy for dh to feel the baby, but nobody else touched my stomach before and I didn't want them to start!

Totally the same as Aloha - I only had one person other than dh touch me - and that was on older lady at work. Neither MIL or my own mother showed any interest in touching me thank GOD !!!

Agree that the body language is a good thing - I'm not at all a touchy feely huggy person and I think people respect that on the whole !! I do recall stepping back from someone at work who I thought was going to touch me though !!

Forgot to say - was also overweight before pg and am still now 2 years on - isn't it hard to find tummy covering tops these days ?? I think most people assume that I'm pg - like I care ?

Isn't it awful how people, especially men think it's ok to paw you when you've got a bump!! it's a total invasion of your personal space. I only let people touch my bump on MY terms and sometimes it was me that asked them to...... it was kind of "Oh the babies kicking, quick can you feel it!!?" .... type thing and only my friends and family were allowed!

Meliwhite - You stand your ground. If you don't want people touching your bump then be firm and tell them.

Scatterbrain - Me too.... I think I constantly look 5 months pg!!

I was overweight before getting pregnant (dd now almost 7 months old). I am under 5ft tall and was over 11st. Didn't put on much weight during the pregnancy and have managed now to get down to around 9.5st. I can now get into clothes that were a bit tight before getting pregnant.I think I have managed to keep if off as I don't drive so I have to catch the bus & walk everywhere. As foe people touching the bump, it was on my terms only.

Moomin · 02/03/2003 22:00

The only time I've lost weight steadily in the past 4 years was when I was preg with dd! Went to weightwatchers after Xmas 2 years ago and weighed 14st8lbs but didn't lose any weight despite trying really hard for 2 weeks, Then found out was preg, so thought "sod it!". The got persistent nausea for first 20 weeks. Got weighed at about 18 weeks and weighed 13 st!!!! Dd is 18m now and I'm back up to 14st. Trying for baby number 2 at the mo, and secretly hoping it might help shift of weight!!! Bet I won't be saying that when I'm retching over the loo every morning again....

Chiccadum · 02/03/2003 22:07

Moomin I totally sympathise with you, with dd1 I lost 4 stone and dd2 I lost 3 1/2 stone but was only sick once during both times, I felt that sick most of the time I couldn't eat, once I walked past a bakery and ended up throwing up in a bin for 1/2 hour because of the smell of fresh bread.

Only thing is I really really want to lost 4 stone, dh isn't too happy about the suggestions though.

Antonia3 · 02/03/2003 22:18

Am envious! I felt v sick too, but - for me - only thing that helped was huge amounts of stodge!!! Put ON four stone when preggers - was v huge.

Moomin · 04/03/2003 13:28

Trouble with me is that I LOVE my food and was gutted when felt so sick. I had a window-of-opportunity for eating at about 6 months preg for about 4 weeks before I developed heartburn and couldn't face nice food at all. Needless to say, when dd was born I had an eating-a-go-go festival as a "reward" for suffering so much; hence the hugeness of my belly as I write. Ho hum...

SnoobyKat · 04/03/2003 13:39

Know the feeling. Lost 24lbs while pg with DS - was sick until week 22 and then when it magically disappeared I developed a sugar-imbalance so had to go on a sugar-free diet for the rest of the time! Problem is that now the weight is slowly creeping up again. Don't believe that c**p about running after a toddler will help keep the weight down. As regards other people (DH/Mum excepted) touching my bump - no way! It was bad enough being prodded and poked at the AN Clinic every month! Hated every minute of it but at leat I had a kind efficient doctor. Bless her.
