Feel embarrassed to ring MW - but feel a bit odd and have a wet undercarriage (!) POSS TMI IN OP

Last night I felt "damp" down below - wasn't overly hot but had been coughing a lot so assumed I'd peed myself a bit (!) - didn't smell at all though.

This morning, just done school run and on the walk back I realised that my trousers felt damp between my legs - got home, again no smell, trousers are damp but not wet IYKWIM (same with knickers) but I feel very wet inside.

God sorry this really is TMI

Should I ring the MW? I never had this with other two pgs.

There is no gush of water or anything, just feels damp - PJs were dry this morning

I need to stop panicking and relax

I usually have long first stage so in the unlikely event I am in labour, I'm pretty sure DH would be home in time! I'm not 100% sure where he is (plasterer) TBH - we said last night I really should be able to get hold of him .

Have managed to leave message for MW to ring me and they're usually pretty good at getting back.

I have mates who have had DC and live near hospital who I could, in an emergency, ring and say "meet me at the hospital with baby vests, breast pads and sanitary pads"

berolina -I thought that too.

A...erm....good clear out is often an early sign isn't it?

MamaG · 25/09/2008 10:01

Just seen DD's lunchbag in the hall - will amble over to school with it and see if I get the wet thing again

Don't worry MamaG. I ended up staying in over night cos nothing was ready at home. Just sent my DP home to sort it all. Hope everything is okay though. Let us know.

LackaDAISYcal · 25/09/2008 10:06

Can you call the AN assessment unit or the labour ward? My MW would just refer me to them anyway, so you could save yourself a phone call and a lot of stressful waiting for the CMW to call back.

And don't go on the way your labours have gone before; apparently the third one can be a little more unpredictable

orangehead · 25/09/2008 10:06

Dont the school provide a lunch if lunch is forgotten, ours do. You might be better just ringing the school. If you go out you might miss mw call

MamaG · 25/09/2008 10:12

Am back! Took mobile with eme jsut in case

SChool do provide a hot dinner if they forget packed lunch, but she forgot it yesterday as well

Slightly damp, not as damp as when on first school run.

Will hoover while waiting for call in case I do go into labour - ooh and change the beds

MamaG · 25/09/2008 10:16

OMG MamaG I think you might be me. Have had the wetness for a few days,no smell, certainly not what people describe waters as smelling like. But it's not consistent. And I don't want to be told by someone that it is increased discharge....And then yesterday I had diarrhoea and strong BH for a couple of hours which then went away. Am nearly 34 weeks.

I phoned the hospital about the BH and diarrhoea and they said if they started again to come in and be prodded.

Let me know what they say to you, I keep thinking about calling someone about the wetness but then it stops.

MamaG · 25/09/2008 10:20

Yes, you feel silly don't you? Thats how I feel. Like I'll be making a big fuss about a bit of increased discharge!

How do you feel today?

OP posts:
LazyLinePainterJane · 25/09/2008 10:25

i feel better, more settled, felt very twingy yesterday, like she was going to come and that was it, but it's all gone now.

DO you have wetness all the time? I feel odd talking about it, I know it is not urine, as I can feel where it comes from, but it could well be discharge. It doesn't help that they talk to you like you are about 10 years old at the hospital/doctors. Maybe we should just embrace that?

Are you still having BH?

Ebb · 25/09/2008 10:27

When I went in for the trace I had a swab done as routine. Had to lie on my back, legs akimbo ( oh the lack of dignity starts well before the actual child birth!!! ) and cough. Got a trickle of waters. Midwife said that was a good way of testing.

orangehead · 25/09/2008 10:28

Not that Im a midwife but I think they are more likely to think you are sensible for getting things checked out and from what I have heard I think they find it worse if you dont get possible symptoms checked out. Its thier job to reassure you, so dont worry either of you.
Hope you both ok

MamaG · 25/09/2008 10:30

LLPJ I had it last night, then this morning I woke up with dry PJs and felt "normal"
got dressed, did school run and came home damp
got changed
felt normal

did school run again with forgotten lunch and felt a BIT damp but not as much

what fun!

OP posts:
greenlawn · 25/09/2008 10:37

Yes I felt silly when they said no waters hadn't broken, but I was also a bit shocked by phoning the delivery ward and describing what had happened and they said "come straight in".

As it happened I was having some nice contractions by the time they monitored me, and when I went home the mw said "see you in a couple of days" - here I am 4 days later and no baby yet .... I agree don't bother with phoning the mw, you should phone delivery straight away as they need to examine you to be sure. They WILL take it seriously.

LazyLinePainterJane · 25/09/2008 10:38

need a "damp-o-meter"

MamaG · 25/09/2008 10:44

The hospital is blardy miles away - 50 mile round trip and I'll have to drive myself as nobody around.

Was hoping MW would just examine me locally if she felt it necessary rather than sending me off to hosp!

OP posts:
MamaG · 25/09/2008 10:45

lol at damp-o-meter

maybe some sugar paper would do the trick!

OP posts:
greenlawn · 25/09/2008 10:50

Just to warn you that even when I got to hospital the mw there called the dr in to examine me rather than do it herself, because (in her words) the clock starts ticking once your waters go (especially before 37 weeks) - now you would definitely have longer if there is no group b strep risk, but worth being sure.

MamaG · 25/09/2008 10:53

bum

The dampness only seems to occur when I've been walking about - hvae been sat here for a hile now and no "added" dampness IYKWIM

Does that sound odd to you?

Will go hoover in a minute and change the beds, see if anything else occurs

OP posts:
LazyLinePainterJane · 25/09/2008 10:58

MamaG, you sound like you have more wetness than I have, having had a lie down and a cough and an inspect, I am quite happy that it is discharge. I would get checked out if I were you.

good luck!

BecauseImWorthIt · 25/09/2008 11:01

PACK YOUR BAG!

Make sure you're ready to go in. Honestly. Not wanting to put the fear of God up worry you, but I think it sounds like this pregnancy is progressing differently from the other two, and that therefore it could also get going more quickly.

But make sure you post your Quiche book first

MamaG · 25/09/2008 11:04

LOL at biwi

I really do need to post that book!

I can't pack a bag as I have nothing to put in it apart from some nappies and babygros

OP posts:
pooka · 25/09/2008 11:26

nappies and babygrows are plenty aren't they? THings like breast pads and other stuff can be gathered up later.
