yes your waters can start to leak, then stop again. Hopefully it won't be too long before things start!

Mine leaked for a couple of days before going with a gush. I just thought it was wee and was frantically doing pelvic floor exercises!

charlie3242 · 13/09/2008 11:29

it came out with a gush during foreplay then trickled abit during sex there was quite abit there but ive had nothing today so not sure if its just me or was my waters?

It could be your hind waters have broken, but not your proper waters. This happened to me about 12 hours before my waters broke properly. It's not anything to worry about, and when your waters break properly you really know about it - every time you move you have another gush!

As it happened during sex is may just be the normal discharge. Late in pregnancy there can be a lot of discharge and it can be worse during/after sex.

charlie3242 · 13/09/2008 11:48

is there any risk if it is my hind water?

No, it can reseal itself. If you are concerned though give the mw a call. She'll test with a strip of litmus type paper. If the paper goes blue it is your waters.

I suspect that my hindwaters have been leaking on and off for the past week at intervals thoughout the day. MW checked and said at that point in time there was no evidence that they were but that they might have resealed

You should definitely be phoning about this. You can't diagnose yourself whether it's hind waters or not - I was told there was no evidence my waters had gone until a consultant scanned me and there was nothing left; all I had had was leaking over the course of a few days.
You can certainly tell the difference between amniotic fluid, discharge and urine. Once mine had started to go I was told not to swim, have sex etc in case it was the waters so you really need to seek proper advice.
But hopefully you're in labour already!

My waters leaked with DS2 and they leaked on and off but I could tell that it was waters because in the mornings there would be a small trickle when I stood up! You should really tell your midwife and you will probably be sent to the hospital to be tested to check if it is waters and also for signs of infection. If it is your waters you will be on the countdown for induction though. My hospital like to induce 48 hours after leaking starts but I managed to talk them into waiting a week because I wanted a home birth but it was not to be! While waiting I had to regularly check my temp as if it rises it can mean infection and also had to go in for monitoring.

They will do a GBS test as well if you haven't already had one.

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 13/09/2008 13:52

If I were you I'd wear a pad and then go into the labour ward where they'll be able to look at it for you.

I did this in my first pregancy, unfortunately it was just wee, should have done more sqeezes!

I have had a similar problem today. I'm 40 weeks and 3 days. About an hour or two after having sex I was lying watching telly and twice when the baby moved there were little gushes of liquid. I assumed it to be semen, but it was rather runny. I got up and have waited for more, but there's nothing. At about 38 weeks the same thing happened. As nothing is happening now, and I have two other children to look after, and it's tea time(!), I don't know if it's worth going to see anyone about it.
