Is there a limit to how much gavison you can consume in one day?

I have the most horrendous heartburn and gastric reflux going on, to the point that I'm regurgitating food (tmi sorry ) on a regular basis

I have been chewing gavison tablet like sweeties and have probably had about 10 or 12 of them today.

The helpful pharmacist has stuck their label over the instructions, which were ripped off when I tried to get it off so I am instructionless.

How many are too many? and any advice if I'm not allowed to take any more cos I'm in agony

baby is head up at 31 weeks and keeps headbutting me in the stomach.

thanks rascal , but it's definately in the throat.....no under rib pain to speak of other than a bit of tenderness sort of mid bump on the RH side that the doc attributed to pulled muscles.

BP at last count (three weeks ago) was 100/60 which is low for me, even when not pregnant, and no other symptoms of PET.

The gaviscon works, but as soon as I eat or drink anything (even water) it somes back with a vengeance.

I'm seeing MW tomorrow so will make sure I get a thorough check

My sister recommends charcoal tablets from Holland & Barrett etc. Apparently the charcoal soaks up the excess acid.i haven't used them myself as they're too big for me to swallow, but you could give that a go.
I don't want to think about how much I've spent on Gaviscon over the last few months!
I guess pregnant women keep them in business. (why aren't the women in the ads pregnant then??)

AnnVan you can get Gaviscan on prescription! which = free whilst you are pregnant!

DaisySteiner · 04/09/2008 09:12

You'll need to get ranitidine prescribed, partly because the over the counter tablets are only 75mg plus it is pretty pricey, but also because the pharamcy shouldn't really sell it to you if you're pregnant.

ive been using Gavison (chewable ones) as got Gastric reflux - bluergh!! but i try not to rely too much on them. i have visions that ill give birth to a white chalky baby!! and whilst im at home ill use the bottle (got it free off the docs but not opened it yet)

A quick update. I found some Zantac 75 in the medicine cabinet, so decided to give it a go. Things have been more bearable since and I've only had to resort to gaviscon tablets twice today, rather than every time I've eaten....although I'm enjoying a wee glass of wine and it's flared up again

Will get to the GP for a prescription though as I checked the price in Sainsbury's and they are mega bucks to buy over the counter.

Hello lackadaisy, sorry to hear about your horrible heartburn. I too was glugging right out of the bottle up to the day my dd was born - then it disappeared like magic! Can you get your doc to prescribe gaviscon advance which does not have as much sodium and is recc for pregnancy apparently. Liquid altho vile really does help more than tabs but not so portable - tho by the stage you're at I didn't care and had a mega bottle sticking out my handbag!! Incidentally quick hijack - remember the thread on primary schools? Don't know if you ever revisited it but I went to Fair Isle primary!! Was really funny seeing your resigned post - no-one else here has ever gone to torbain etc!!! Anyway - good luck with the heartburn and try to get to the docs soon!

LackaDAISYcal · 04/09/2008 22:41

wow what a small world So you probably went to KHS as well then? how old are you, if that's not too personal a question? We might know each other!

can't take the gaviscon liquid unfortunately.......makes me physically sick. I've tried but I just can't stomach it

I'm 40 (eek - turned in Jan and still not used to seeing it in writing!) Yes, I went to KHS - grand old days of Mrs Petrie and Slimey!! And I know what you mean about the liquid - I would retch every time!! Very attractive to husband and colleagues I'm sure .....!

LackaDAISYcal · 04/09/2008 22:56

Interesting....I'm 40 in February ....left KHS after sixth year in 1987. I have pics on my profile, but i think I've changed a lot since then!

You do look quite familiar actually.... I've not got any pics on my profile - or even a profile come to that! Way too bashful for that! I left after 6th year in 86 so looks like you were the year below me. Just shows you - if you stay on MN long enough someone you know will log on eventually! God isn't that strange!!

LackaDAISYcal · 04/09/2008 23:43

you didn't have a sister in my year by any chance did you?

Nope! Im an only child! I actually lived nearer Torbain school but FP was my catchment. just thinking of how i could discreetly tell you my name .......! Your children are so lovely btw - I have a 5 1/2 yr gap between mine, DS 6 and DD 4 months..... Am away to bed now, maybe Ill come up with a discreet solution to revealing our identities after a good sleep -mind you, sleep? whats that again remind me!!

LackaDAISYcal · 05/09/2008 09:21

you could always CAT me if you are set up for it...click on the little envelope on the name bar thingy.

or email me at daisybump at yahoo dot co dot uk

I'm really intrigued now as I lived quite near to the shops on B Road (you'll know where I mean ) and we used to hang out at the play park near the flats (the one with the huge slide)....before they took it away.

There are 5 years between my two as well, and I'm having another one in November......yikes!

Hi lackadaisy - just emailed you. Guessing you will either be in bed (if you are sensible!) or up watching BB amazed that Rachael won! Catch up with you soon anyway (smile)x
