Anybody had much worse morning sickness with 2nd/3rd child - if so was the baby a different sex/twins?

I thought with DD (21 months) I had awful morning sickness but this time I've had to take medication for my 24hour nausea and have spent as much time lying in bed that looking after a 21 month old full time allows.

GP got me worried saying he most often sees this level of sickness with twins. I have my scan on Friday so I will know soon. But thinking it could be a different sex.

Any experiences?

have heard that about twins too, this is my 4th pregnancy (though 2 didn't hold on) and am much sicker than I was at this stage with ds. Much too early to tell if twins or a ds/dd for us yet though so will be interested what others say.

Lizzylou · 02/09/2008 09:16

Was sicker with Ds2 than Ds1, but then only nausea really.
My Mom was really ill with both her pregnancies (me and my brother), she was hospitalised and on a drip with both. She then had "great" births. I did it the other way round.
Worry not.

Mimsy2000 · 02/09/2008 09:18

i was sicker with second pregnancy. no twins [phew!] and both boys.

UniversallyChallenged · 02/09/2008 09:20

Hardly sick with No1
Sicker with No2
Sick as a dog with No3 for 4 months, lost about 1.5 stone

All girls!

Tapster · 02/09/2008 09:29

Would be very happy with another girl, not keen on twins I have to admit - witnessed my best friend bringing up twins with a toddler.

Was very sick with PG no. 1 (DD - sadly stillborn though nothing to do with sickness). Less sick with PG2 - DS.

Am feeling utterly rubbish with PG3 but am not even 5 weeks yet so utterly terrified it will be dire. Keep wondering if it's twins too.

Sorry this is no help, but I think I'm in the same boat to you.

jellybeans · 02/09/2008 09:33

I was sick with all my girls
Not sick at all with my boys, I have twin boys and felt GREAT when pg with them, I also am pg with probably a DS and have not been sick at all. Was VERY sick with my DD last year.

VictorianSqualor · 02/09/2008 09:34

I had morning sickness with DD, all the way through, but not particularly severely, I had morning sickness with DS1 for a few months, I had Hyperemis with DS2 for the first six months.

CatIsSleepy · 02/09/2008 09:38

don't think it's necessarily twins-my friend had such bad hyperemesis she had to be hospitalised and put on a drip...there was only one baby in there

don't panic!

hannah001 · 02/09/2008 11:04

But.... on the other hand - I was much sicker with pg 2 - and yes it was twins

loonywoman · 12/09/2008 20:34

So interested to see this message as I am getting very worried that either having twins or my dates are wrong. Am only 5 weeks pregnant and have been nauseaous for the last 2.5 weeks. Didn't start until 6 weeks+ with other 2 pregnancies (both girls) and got much worse peaking at about 10 weeks. Evil receptionist at doctors will not allow me to book a midwife appointment until I am 10 weeks by my dates and therefore can't even get her to check size vs dates. Praying that this is just a bad case of morning sickness - DD1 is special needs, DD2 very active, and run a business. Really can't do the twins thing. DOes anyone have any positive stories out there??

Hope the scan went well Tapster and that you are beginning to feel better

pinkmagic1 · 12/09/2008 20:38

Wasn't sick at all with my DS but was sick as a dog with DD from quite early on.

claireybee · 12/09/2008 20:40

I had it the other way round -hyperemis with first pregnancy for first 5 months (dd) and a few weeks of bad nausea/sickness then just very tired with occasional nausea with second (ds)

rubyring · 12/09/2008 21:58

hi there! am nearly 12 wks pregnant with #3, have 2 dd's age 3 and 13 mths and definitely feel far worse this time than with the others. Not puking just constant constant nausea from before I even took the test at 4 weeks - I almost wish I could puke I might feel better! urgh! Very spotty, hormonal, emotional, elated, weepy (happy or sad) and knackered! Scan on Monday, feel nervous and hope it will all be ok.... Have just been reading some of the twins threads....my theory is it's either a boy, or it's twins, or I'm just extra knackered as I have 2 littleuns already...so I have no clue!!! But some weird things like getting up in the night sometimes to eat toast, eating marmite straight out of jar, look really big already - altho still had a tum from the others - 2 friends have dreamt I'm having twins and this strange old lady stopped me in the street on hols 2 years ago and said I would have twin boys v odd...!!!!!!! Anyway I'm sure I'm just being dramatic and it will be one baby. My friend has just had number 3 (a dd) and said it was a really shit pregnancy cos of looking after her other 2 ds's....just spouting off really! Anyway, all the best everyone!

Littleface · 12/09/2008 22:04

Had no morning sickness with my first (DS) was sick all through with my second (DD). not really bad just constant, My midwife said 2nd (or 3rd etc) pregnancies where worse for sickness cos you are tired from looking after the 1st DC

Miaou · 12/09/2008 22:08

With each pregnancy my ms started earlier, lasted longer, and was more intense. I had girl, girl, boy, boy (no twins!) - just luck of the draw I think - most m/wives were surprised that it happened like that.

Piffle · 12/09/2008 22:08

ds1-no sickness
Dd-hyperemesis til 30weeks
Ds2- no sickness

WendyWeber · 12/09/2008 22:09

Nothing with DD1, death warmed up with DD2, in between with DS1 & DS2.

sherbetdipdab · 12/09/2008 22:11

I was incredibly sick all the way through my first pregnancy, right up until the birth and he was a boy.

I was sick til 16 weeks this time and had DD 2 weeks ago. I felt completely different this time.

jellibob · 13/09/2008 16:15

DS1 - no sicknes

22 weeks pregnant now, sick as a parrot but only in the evenings thankfully (have to sleep with a bucket next to the bed though). Have known from 7 weeks that it's twins!

sickbubby · 08/04/2009 17:27

Hi I am 6 weeks pregnant with my second, had HG with my first pregnancy, (daughter now 3), lost count how many times I was admitted to hospital.

Reading through the thread I am now remembering the hopeless despair and lack of understanding. Had people telling me it was just in my head because I expected to get morning sickness, remember thinking at the time 'if this is in my head, why can't I stop it?'

Nausea and sickness started at 5 weeks with my daughter, spent weeks 5 to 7 in bed getting weaker and weaker, thinking it was just a tummy bug before seeing the GP and getting admitted to hospital and diagnosed as HG. Had never even heard of it before. Spent until week 17 off work, in and out of hospital, going mad at day time TV, too weak to move from the sofa and passing out if I stood up, remember having to cawl to the toilet to wee or throw up (which was quite regular).

Have to say none of the meds really worked for me, NEITHER DID GINGER NUTS!!!! However in final despeation I did try hypnotherapy and this did actually seem to work but only for a week or so then I would start being sick again, went back twice but it was very expensive this was towards the end of the HG so was only a few more weeks before it subsided.

Anyway am now into week six, feeling almost constantly nauseated, however am trying to eat my way through it (like the hungry catapilla!) although don't desire anyhting to eat, was actually sick this morning for the first time and felt better for a few minutes afterwards. Am about to start a new job who don't know I am pregnant and am scared that that I am headed for HG again, but with a new job and my daughter have to find a better way to cope with it than last time. Will keep you posted on my progress

magnummum · 08/04/2009 17:31

Mildly nauseous with Dd1, horrendously nauseated much earlier though for shorter period this pregnancy - thought it must be a boy this time - turned out it's twins!

sickbubby · 08/04/2009 22:58

oh god twins - now I'm scared I am a twin - it's possible that it could be ...........NOOOOOOOOOOO!

Lilyloo · 08/04/2009 23:00

Had terrible sickness with dc 2 was (dd) not much with dc 1 or 3 (dc 1 was ds , dc 3 was dd!!) I was v shocked tbh!!!

johnbarrowmanlovesme · 08/04/2009 23:09

I had a very easy pregnancy first time round with DS1 & the same with DS2 who I sadly lost at 20 weeks pg. 3rd pregnancy was the same as before, lost baby at 12 weeks, didn't find out the sex

Baby no.3 made me sick every single day, I used to have to stop the car to be sick at the side of the road & once couldn't stop in time & pucked all over the dashboard As soon as DD1 was born I could eat again (& haven't stopped sice!) without being sick.
