Carvings!!

Hello. Last time, I didnt really have any craving through my pregnancy, and this time, i am only 6 weeks and have loads!!

Since 10am this morning, I have wanted to order pizza, from pizza hut (not where else, and the pizzas in the freezer will not do)

I have really craved to smoke, (stoppped smoking when preg with DD last year).

Last night, I wanted McDonalds (unusal for me) and made DH go and get it, I ate my burger and then really wanted his!

Have also really craved fizzy drinks, which I try and limit but my cravings do get the better of me quite often!

Does anybody else get like this? I feel like I am just eating junk. Being pregnant and breastfeeding, I know I should be eating better.

sorry had to laugh at the 'carvings' can't say I have ever been tempted to do that! from a fellow usborne rep

Trebuchet · 01/09/2008 11:54

Bollocks to it, you do what you have to do to get through it. Last pg I ate no sugar at all for fear of gestational dibetes, very strict, this time I planned to do Slimming World to minimise weight gain, and instead I've pretty much lived off beef Hula Hoops.

laweaselmys · 01/09/2008 11:56

I have developed a taste for tea. Which I have never ever liked before, and which I know I should be cutting down on/avoiding whilst pregnant. I have at various points really craved egg mcMuffins but couldn't have any as their is no McD's near us.

It just makes me think the body really has no idea what it is doing and that cravings mean nothing! I don't reckon there's anything wrong with just going for it and indulging either.

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 01/09/2008 12:11

I craved starburst sweets and lilt or rio. I'm not normally a sweetie person or a fizzy drinks person but they helped with the MS!

Usbornebooksathomeorganiser · 01/09/2008 12:24

Oh no, didnt noticew the spelling mistake! And there is no way of editing the title is there? lol

Another thing I have eaten loads of is anything meaty. My last pregnancy, I couldn't stant chicken, but other meat was bearable but not at all what I wanted. Now its meat meat meat, including chicken!

I have just ordered myself a large pizza, with double cheese, double pineapple, double chicken and sweetcorn, with BBQ sauce. DH is going to hate it - we usually have margarreta!

That pizza sounds revolting - enjoy! .
I've been craving crisp sandwiches, but they have to be :
Thick white bread
Real butter
Dairylea spread
Walkers Sensations Balsamic vinegar & Roasted red onion crisps!

Followed by Orange Britvic 55

& a Wagon Wheel .

I can't remember the last time i ate a banana, & i used to eat 2 or 3 a day.

I really want this stage to pass....

Usbornebooksathomeorganiser · 01/09/2008 14:15

I was sick 5 mins before the pizza arrived so dint really enjoy it, which is sooo annoying as I looked forward to that all day!

I craved McDonalds burgers, sausage rolls, anything with chips and liquorice allsorts for the first 5 months. Given that I normally eat an extremely healthy, low fat diet with no red meat it came as a bit of a surprise. Needless to say DH was delighted!

Usbornebooksathomeorganiser · 01/09/2008 14:46

lol, we have a McDs at the end of the road too!

I have been craving chocolate, which I know sounds a bit obvious and perhaps almost a staple food to some people but I never usually eat it at all.
I;m glad other people don't follow such a healthy diet when pregnant. I remember with my first reading all this stuff about healthy eating and thinking that it wouldn't be difficult because I have a healthy diet anyway, but then immediately started living off rubbish.

JezzaJ9 · 01/09/2008 15:03

I am with you on the chocolate thing I never was a big choc eater, don't get me wrong id have the odd occasional double decker but I now feel the need to eat it every day. I was eating chocolate cookies at 7am on sunday morning! ) I figure that i am not drinking any wine and my DP is continuing drinking beer so choc is now my bad habit

RIBS · 01/09/2008 17:00

I had food fads on a regular basis, pre-pregnancy! Ive been gutted I havent really had anything weird, just jam & bread and sugar snap peas. Mmmmmmmm sugar snap peas!!
But my fav food WAS chicken. I used to live on it. Now I cant eat it, its not the taste of it, its the texture. It just feels sticky and wrong on my teeth.
Please tell me i'll be able to enjoy chicken again!! I've been devastated!

miomaolalalalala · 01/09/2008 17:06

love this..i eat the most bonkers food whilst pregnant (actually not bonkers but stuff i haven't touched post teenage years/now i'm a healthy pushy mummy).

crusha strawberry milk...sooo sweet. i can drink 4 pts a day!

almond cakey fingers

hoola hoops...beef

crunchy nut cornflakes

lemon and sugar crepes

double decker/topic

salty foods like burger king

a bit hmmmm with ds one it was porridge and green apples and ds two it was carrots!

and i swear swear...i haven't put on a pound yet, although at 70kgs i'm probably quite heavy already

ScrumptiousBumptious · 01/09/2008 17:39

Love this thread. PhoebeLaura, I have EXACTLY the same cravings as you. Weird. Did you have a boy or a girl? (Slly question I know, but just interested!)

bikerunski · 01/09/2008 17:43

Toast and Marmite
Mini Cheddars
Cheesey Doritos
Hummus

Very savoury baby this

titmouse · 01/09/2008 19:00

So glad I am not the only one eating an obscene amount of hula hoops.

Honeymoonmummy · 01/09/2008 20:04

I wasn't sure if they were cravings until I read this thread but I have become a bit of a chocaholic too! And I have to have at least one bowl of cereal every day! It's Frosties at the moment!! I'm having a girl and I read that one of the old wives tales is that you crave more sweet things when you're expecting a girl...

CatIsSleepy · 01/09/2008 20:11

toast and marmite
spicy, zingy food
salty things
am off chocolate-have had a Magnum in the freezer for about 10 days i can't face eating
but that's probably because i feel a bit sick the whole time
am hoping that will pass

islandlassie · 01/09/2008 20:11

I didnt believe in the wierd cravings people got, i thought it was just ladies with little control and a bit of a silly thing really

UNTIL i found myself brushing my teeth really wanting to swallow the toothpaste. Thought nothing of it but now i cant brush my teeth with nice tasting toothpaste or i think i'll start eating it!
