very worried about going for growth scan

I posted about this a couple of weeks ago and had some reassurance. I thought everything was ok, but now I am all confused and worried again. At my 34 week check the MW said I was measuring 30 weeks and said she would measure again at 36 weeks and then if the bump hadn't grown much then she would send me for a growth scan the very next day. I had my 36 week check on Thursday and she measured and it was 34cm when it should be 36cm. She wasn't worried and I thought all was ok.

However, the following day I had a consultant appointment and he measured and said it was 31cm and I needed a growth scan. I am meant to have this before Friday, but they can't fit me until Friday afternoon and then I have to wait until the following week to see the consultant again to discuss. Am worried because of all the waiting. Also, this might sound strange but I feel like the baby is not growing. My bump seems to have stayed the same for ages, but then maybe I am just completely paranoid. Is there any advice anyone can give me. I know that the measuring is not accurate and I should take no notice, but if the consultant is worried then maybe something is wrong. If there is something wrong, what could it be?

Thanks for message.
Just had a look in my book and it says AF (normal). Then it says PI (normal). Not sure what PI is though, but good that it is normal I guess. Do you think this is the blood flow you were talking about?

Ah!! Have just thought Pl probably means placenta!!

There was a bit of debate as to whether the placenta was slightly in the way, however, they ruled that out.

Am still seeing the consultant next Friday. Have no idea why really. At least it will be an extra check though, so not too long to wait between appts.

Hi Woose,
Glad to hear that the MW is happy. I agree it is unlikely that the dating scan would be 4 weeks out (one or two wks quite possibly) - how would an LMP calculation sit alongside your dating scan dates? but if you believe conception dates are around the EDD time then it probably is accurate.
You also have to remember that all of the stats are based on 'norms' - so if you have non-caucasian ancestry that could make a difference to what is 'normal' for you.
Ultimately, at 37 weeks if they had any concerns they would be taking you in.
Hope all goes well with the consultant next week.

Hi Woose. Glad the scan went well and that the midwife said not to worry. I was measuring 2cm's behind on tues and midwife said it was fine. From my growth scan at 34 wks consultant said the baby was measuring 33wks6days and that you couldn't get much better than that. I guess I'll find out 2 weeks tues when I have my section!
Ds was only 5lb11 at 40 wks so was on the 4th centile of the baby graphs at birth and they were not concerned. He was obviously small but caught up really quickly and some weeks put on a pound a week just breastfeeding! I hope all continues to go well for you and look forward to hearing of the arrival. Do you know if you're having a boy or girl? I'm having a surprise this time and really enjoying the guessing!
Jadey - glad you proved all those people wrong. I'd forgotten how irritating people commenting on the smallness of bump could be until recently. I know they mean well but it's not what you want to hear when you're worrying is it?

Thanks Buttercupbabe. Will let you all know. I am having a surprise too. I have a feeling it is a girl though, only because everything has been so different. The size and shape of bump, more sickness etc. Who knows though, just have 3 weeks to go before I find out for sure!!!

Good luck for the section and let us know of the arrival. It sounds as if your baby is a lovely size!!

Jadey, enjoy your baby daughter.

AF and PI are likely to refer to the blood flow through the placental arteries - AF is arterial flow and PI is a measurement of the pressure the blood is at.

If blood flow is reduced then this can be a reason for a baby not growing as it should. The fact that blood flow is normal is reassuring as it indicates that your baby is getting all the nutrients and oxygen that he/she needs.
