I just need a bit of JOLLY chat at the moment. Fed up thinking about heavy things! So - were you right in imagining how your DC looked? I've got fair hair and blue eyes, and DP has got dark hair and blue eyes. I'm expecting my DD to be dark though there is no logical reason to this. Three of her grandparents have/had blue eyes and one has hazelly brown, so I'm thinking blue eyes for her are a given...

If you're really interested, here is a reasonably brief explanation of the "in the normal run of things" point -- i.e. how under certain circumstances outside the normal run of things two blue-eyed parents can have a green or brown eyed child.

This is so unlikely that it's not really worth considering when speculating about what colour eyes a future DC might have -- although it may need to be memorised should you beat the odds and have a brown-eyed child when people start giving you looks...

What? DO you mean fabulously beautiful? OH YES!

Seriously, she was wrapped and hatted before I saw her. I was barmy to knwo what colour hair she had. I'm ginger and I'm the only one who didn't want a ginger baby (although I like my hair). She has her daddy's soft brown curls.

My DD looks exactly like DH's sister. And has the personality of my sister.
So me and DH totally missed out.
How does that work?!!

PortAndLemon · 29/08/2008 14:36

Oh yes, DS has the personality (and the A&E attendance record) of my brother too...

PinkTulips · 29/08/2008 14:42

yep, dd looked exactly like i did when i was born and ds looked just like her but boy version.

exactly what i thought they'd look like

i could never imagine producing a bald or blonde baby, i'm not sure i'd believe they were mine if i did!

LadyThompson · 29/08/2008 14:50

Thanks PortandLemon, that's ace! I am an ignoramus about these matters...and it's actually very interesting...

FAQ - funny you had a dream like that. I'm glad you reminded me of a dream I had of DS2 (I didn't know he was a DS then) when I was pregnant, as a little round faced blond haired blue eyed bouncing bundle. It was particularly his energy and confidence that I remember from the dream and he is excactly like that now .
I have wild blond wavy hair and blue eyes, DP has fine very straight very dark hair and blue eyes (he was a blond baby). Both DSs are blond and blue eyed. DS1 looks like a mini me but with straight hair, DS2 looks like a mini DP but with wavy hair. Think they will both end up with dark hair though.

LadyThompson · 29/08/2008 15:09

I know there's a pattern to it and all but it seems so random...

My parents are both white but with dark hair and darkish skin that tans easily. My sister is same as them. And I am blonde with very fair skin that burns like billyho. Maybe there's something they're not telling me? Probably not though, as I have facial features from each of my parents!

ds has dh's awesome blue eyes. dh's are hidden behind strong glasses, but they are really beautiful, and so are ds's everyone is always commenting about them.

my upturned little nose also no surprise

but overal far far more beautiful than I imagined

fernie3 · 29/08/2008 21:10

I always thought I would have red haired children because I have red hair as does alot of my family, but when they were born both of them had very dark almost black hair! (my oldest is still dark but my youngest has lightened although not red!)

this time we will see

This is very interesting...

I'm pg with DC number 1. 7+1 today. DH has ginger hair that was curly when he was little and is now wavy and a bit more sandy coloured. SIL is the same but neither MIL or FIL have red hair?!

I have mousey brown straight hair - mum has similar and dad has black hair.

wondering what the likelihood is of DC being a redhead? I imagine I'm having a little one with hoards of red curls but not sure if this is actually that likely?

DH has very dark colouring, with dark brown hair and eyes. I have dark blonde hair and brown eyes. When I imagined our DD, I thought his "dominant" colouring, would be to the fore.

I am very surprised to have a very blonde, blue eyed child!

traceybath · 01/09/2008 11:22

DS1 double of daddy. I was quite shocked as am blue eyed blonde and had expected a fair baby and instead got mini-elvis complete with quiff.

DS2 blue eyed blonde to mil's shock! When she saw him she said 'gosh he does look like you, well as long as he's healthy'!!

Am enjoying having a baby who looks like me though.
