Long birth first time round - same again this time?

Hello. I had a 49hour labour last time, had planned a home birth but had to go in as I had been in labour too long.

Am I likly to have a long labour again? I am worried about my DD. I would feel awful for her if I had to leave her for 2 days! I am a childminder, so she is with me all the time and this is going to be a big shock for her if I leave her for long. She is also an awful sleeper and still wakes every couple of hours.

I have got until april so I know I have ages yet but its just the main thing that is worrying me (if I get that far).

My first was 29 hours - the second a mere 13! they say second births are normally quicker, I suppose everything is relative.

Forgot to say, I dont think I want a home birth this time, as it was so much organising last time and had the pool etc to clear away when we got home with our baby.

I am thinking of going to our local birthing centre, but I have no idea if they wil let her come and visit during visiting hours while in labour (obviuosly not when in final stages, but I mean at the start as I was on the ward for about 24hours last time).

First time 40 hours then emergency c-section; second time five and a quarter hours from first "ooh, is that a contraction?" to holding baby.

Not in my case, 48 hours with DS1, 17 hours with DS2.
Both were ventouse though.

I had two quick births but even so the second was less than half the time of the first. The main difference was the length of time pushing - about three quarters of an hour with my first and less than 5 minutes with my second.

I would say from what I have heard second babies tend to be quicker (and more relaxed) than first

It's highly unlikely your next labour will be as long. My first lasted from the Thursday to the Saturday. My next two were both 8 hours.

My first labour lasted for days at 2cm dilated (baby was OP) then established labour was 19 hours. My second labour was 40 minutes start to finish!

OK I was induced with first, went through whole of labour (17 hours) and 2 and a bit hours pushing to no avail and ended up having an emcs.

Any ideas as to what I can expect for 2nd labour?
Will the fact that I was induced still count as labour (so to speak) or will this new one be like a 1st? It's just I am slightly far from the hospital and I don't want to end up giving birth in the car....

If you got to fully dilated last time then the first stage will be a second labour (doesn't matter that you were induced first time). First stage should be less than 17 hours but you can't really tell in advance how much less. Check with your midwife when they want you to come in, based on contraction length/frequency (and remember you're counting from the start of one to the start of the next).

I see- just like feedings. I remember how depressed I got when I realised 2 hours wasn't 'between' feeds.....

Good to know as I didn't have any contractions (or Braxton) at all the 1st time round, so don't really know what to expect this time round.
I am 39 weeks tomorrow and last night really thought I was going into labour. I had a good half hour of irregular not-quite-painful-but-nearly action and started to wonder...

PS no point even bothering to call my MW their office is only open Thursday/Friday and they never answer their mobiles.
I had to reschedule an appointment 2 months ago and it took me 3 weeks to get through to anyone.
I'll basically call the birth centre at my hospital- they're very efficient, not to mention friendly!

I am 37 weeks with DC1 do can't share any personal experiences, but my mum - with me 5 hrs from first twinge to little me in her arms, 3years later 36 hours to emergency CS with my sister.

My first was 22 hours and my second just three and a half. I'm really scared with my third. I hope I have time to call in family to stay with DCs and to get to the hospital. I'm sure you will have a much shorter labor but will be still painful, sorry
