Just wondered if anyone has been signed off work for MS....How long were you off for? Really struggling at the moment and thinking if it gets much worse I should see the GP.

Thanks,

Cosmo

The GP will sing you off for 1-2 weeks at a time, if it's really debilitating. Don't feel bad about it!

I was signed of for 8 weeks in total with hyperemsis, which is really bad MS. I was in hospital a lot of that time though. But my GP did sign me off for some time that I wasn't. You can self certify for a week. I self certified my first week, but put it down to "gastro-intestinal disorder" (we have a pick list to choose from on the self cert on line system at work)as I hadn't gone public at work. Just as well I did tell them a few days later, as I was hopsitalised later the same day.

I was signed off for a week by my GP, no problem. I had only just started a new job, after 6 week';s holiday (was teacher) and was really struggling. It just had to be done. Could have had more time off - infact, should have had more time off. But went ack due to guilt of not being at work.

I got signed off for 4 weeks in total - the explanation on the sick note was "complications of pregnancy". Go and do it - it's so nice not to have to sit through a day at work whilst feeling like death.

Wish I'd done it - I worked through, had a bag at my desk to throw up into in case I didn't make it to the loo - was sick every day, at least 10 times a day for the whole nine months. I was an IDIOT not to take time off work, and ended up utterly exhausted by the time I finally started ML. Wish I'd been sensible enough to go back to my GP...

I was signed off for three months, but it was two weeks at a time to begin with, however GP extended it when I went in to renew my sick note and managed ot pass out at reception....scared the little old ladies in the waiting room!!!!

My GP was really understanding and signed me off for about 8 - 10 weeks. She did ti in 2 week sections - I just rang the surgery and then ahd to go and collect the note. Do it - I couldn't have coped with work.

Yup I was signed off too, can't remember how long for in total, maybe 3 months? but I think they did it 2 weeks at a time.

This was the 2nd Doctor I'd seen to try to get signed off work for it though, the first was a horrible old woman who told me that pregnancy wasn't an illness and that she had always worked up untill 40 weeks, etc etc.
This was despite me having a job that involved standing constantly and lifting, which I was totally incapable of doing due to the sickness, fainting, hip and back problems...
I thought, well at least she gets to sit down in her job!
sometimes women can be so unsympathetic toward other women.

I ended up being signed off for the whole of my preganancy. After 10 years of trying I got hyperemsis and was being sick at least 5 times a day. If you are at all worried about it getting too much then I urge you to go to your docs as you and the life inside you are far far more important than letting a few pepole down at work!!!! I know money loss is tough, especially with your angel due, but really you manage !! I'm glad I was signed off and made the most of it especially as anya was premmie (ended up with damn pre eclampsia too!!) How unlucky hey!! But I wouldn't change a thing as she is so precious XXX look after yourself XXX
