jeanjeannie you will have to wait till Christmas time for the pics then they should fit a treat

hedgepig · 08/09/2008 11:38

Morning all I am officially a lady of lesiure now as this is the 1st day of maternity leave bliss (smile).
MrsB & JW sorry I missed you yesterday before you went but good luck, big hugs you will have your LOs home soon.
I am furiously washing and sorting babay clothes, still nowhere to put them but at least they are down from the loft.I seem to have lost the hats and scratch mits but everything else is about. So long as this LO is a boy we will be fine.
JJ sorry about the shops you know you are really desperate when the shops become and entertainment venue. Slippers reminds be I found a lively web site with sheepskin slippers last year but they had sold out my last winter so I must try earlier this year.
ladymac what a clever boy you have, if you are ever up in Cambridge let me know and we could try and meet up cos we are just south of the city.
KAZ hope you are OK did your visits to your parents go OK?
off to have a snack, I wonder if we have any cake?

jeanjeannie · 08/09/2008 14:08

Ah Hedgepig...you're a lunching, lady of leisure - how fab!

Can't remember - have you chosen to find out what the sex of LO is? We didn't and I have to say that there were so many nice little outfits from when Iris was a baby that I was thrilled to have a chance to use them again

Hope mrsboogie is getting along OK and johnworf is loving having her new room mate!

kaz - hope life at the house is ok - do keep us posted on your move to the new flat...fingers crossed. Ah - like the pics on Facebook - cheers!

Verity is besides herself today - needing constant attention and throwing up at whoever looks at her I reek of sick.....nice!

OP posts:
hedgepig · 08/09/2008 14:27

ahhh eau de vomit ...... lovely JJ .

I don't know what sex I'm having this time, most of my 0-3 months stuff seems neutral anyway, Most of the things a babygros I must admit when Ben was very small if someone gave me an outfit I found it very stressful for some reason. So I think i will stick to baby gros for the beginning anyway. I need to send DH back up the loft cos I have no bedding. I was going to do so much today and I haven't achieved anything yet and its nearly school picking up time.

jeanjeannie · 08/09/2008 14:35

Babygros rock. I've no patience with changing whole outfits - especially when at home. I tend to only put her in lovely ensembles when we're out and about!

Yes, eau de Vomit is unlikely to catch on and coupled with the exploding bottom end, creating backsplash pooey nappies I can't be bothered with anything other than a pop-on pop-off babygro. Mind you - once they start to walk there's no stopping me on my quest for cute stuff

OP posts:
hedgepig · 08/09/2008 14:44

DH gets very frustrated with babygros he always mamages to get th epoppers wrong. We have a cunning bussiness idea with different cloured poppers so you can match them up, it will be marketed especially for me!
I think I am a huge drain on the national grid today, I have been washing and drying things since early this morning, the weather is so pants no chance to dry much on the line

jeanjeannie · 08/09/2008 15:50

I shall join you in your national grid drain - been doing the same. It was a loft weekend - so loads more stuff has come down and the rest into bags for ebay or charity shop.

Love the poppers idea - brilliant for when you're sooo tired you can barely wipe their bums

I'm fed up of erverything being patterned. My business idea is to selling lashings of gorgeous coloured tops (the ones with the poppers under nappies)that are all plain. Then you could match everything and not be stuck with loads of wild patterns or slogans.

YAY!We're home (big smiles all round)

Rooming in was a breeze and it all came flooding back to me from 17 years ago what you actually do with a baby. However, Katherine grunts and groans all night long. Apparently it's a prem thing - they all do it - but I really couldn't sleep in between those 2 hourly eye drops. So, I'm running on...hmm not sure what....but I'm a bit hyper today.

We're just having a quiet night tonight without visitors and hopefully, we'll have a routine going in a couple of days. Tbh, Katherine is really good on her 4 hourly feeds (almost to the minute) and has a feed around 1am then nothing until 6am. Fantastic! When eye drops stop (hopefully this Thursday), I may be lucky enough to get a few hours sleep clumped together.

mrsboogie glad you got off to your induction ok and I'm sure as I type this post you are well underway with your labour. Or mebbe you have already had your LO Keep us all posted though

pwcbird thanks for your good wishes. In fact, thanks to everyone for your good wishes. It feels real now she's home. I've actually registered I have a new baby - only 3.5 months after the event

Had a cry saying goodbye to all the nurses. God, how lame am I? But they have been my life for so long now, with their unending support. I shall really miss them all (although I'll be back on the unit for follow ups but not really the same thing).

I'll post a few pics of us from this morning when I get the chance.

jeanjeannie · 08/09/2008 16:58

YEAHHHHH!!! OMG, OMG - they're home, they're home....*runs round, takes off pinny looks all flustered and wipes moist eyes !

WOW - it's real - finally the Princess Katherine is home

Sounds like they got her off to a great routine - how fab. And I'm sure you did have a small weep - it's a monumental step.

So - all the hard work starts....as the lady used to say in fame "right here's where you start paying...in sweat!" And you're gonna enjoy and savour every blinkin moment.

Yep - pictures, pictures....pleeeease!

Oh well done the johnworf family. You enjoy your gorgeous girl - we here at Jeanjeannie towers are absolutely cock-a-hoop for you all.xxxx

jw CONGRATULATIONS AND JUBILATIONS (etc etc as Sir Cliffy would say). Hurrah, hurrah and thrice hurrah. This is wonderful news. I am off to make banana muffins in celebration. I am truly thrilled for you and v. excited.

Just a small moan on my part for today
a) midwife rang this morning to see why I had not attended my appointment for GD! When I told her she was very sorry and said 'oh, I suppose I should have checked the computer before phoning'. Grrrr . Then, probably because she felt so bad, she asked if I had had a follow up appointment. When I said no I'd had nothing she said I was to hold and I'd be put through to sort it out, only to be put through and find that I don't actually get any sort of after treatment/appointment and if/when I get pregant again it's only decided then if I need consultant care for the next pregnancy. b) was so annoyed about this I decided (finally) to go and see my gp for any advice and, apparently, her first appt is a week on Tuesday! WHAT?? I can't see my gp for over a week? . Finally,c) DS did the biggest poo I have ever seen today - he was in his cot (supposed to be nap time) and it went over the sheet (which I'd only changed this morning), the blanket, his clothes, and worst of all, his hands and his thumb was in his mouth so now I am preparing myself for tummy upsets. I have never seen such a big poo in all my life - and boy he can do some biggun's. It was a poo-a-rama! Thought you might like to know, that's all

pwcbird · 08/09/2008 17:05

and just to remind you with little-un's that do squishy greeny/sandy poos that ds is 2 so basically it was a bed of sh*t (sorry for the bad language ladies).

hedgepig · 08/09/2008 19:48

JW FANTASTIC!! SUPER-DOOPER!! BRILL BRILL BRILL
for some reason I had in my head you were rooming in from yesterday until her due date on the 14th. I am so excited for you ekkkk
fire works here.

JJ & pwcbird you have had vomit and poo filled days how yuckky. I hope tomorrow will be more fragrant for you both.

pwcbird how crap for the hosp not to check before phoning you. actually double !

johnworf · 08/09/2008 20:38

ewwwwwwwwwww that was a really bad poo. Poor little thing. Even sucked it off his thumb I bet he'll come to no harm cos LO's never seem to do with those kind of accidents. Love the 'bed of shit'. Sorry. Couldn't help it

pwcbird you kinda come to expect cock ups like you've experienced. The right hand doesn't know what the left is doing. I got a phone call demanding to know why I was late for my 12 week scan so I had to tell them I'd lost the baby 3 weeks previously. It's bloody shoddy imho...especially for you

jeanjeannie I'm coming to appreciate her already - even the grunts. Yeah, it is hard work and I think I've only had around 4 hours sleep in the past 35 hours. I'm sure you know how that feels. Can't grumble though

ladymac · 09/09/2008 10:59

johnworf that's so exciting. I'm very happy for you all. You've waited so long and now you've finally brought your little girl home. Hope she noticed how tidy the house was looking and that she approved of the colour scheme in her nursery. Any chance you can try and catch up on a bit of sleep during the day? Or is everything just too exciting at the moment?

I woke up needing the loo at 4.30 this morning and that was it. I just couldn't go back to sleep. This seems to be a feature of this pregnancy, just as it was the last one. Only upside is that dh felt so sorry for me when he got up that he hoovered all rooms downstairs and the stairs before he went to work. What a star.

Dd2's 12th birthday tomorrow. Am currently waiting in for her mobile phone to be delivered. She has had an old one of mine for the past few months and I know she's going to be beside herself with excitement when she opens the new one tomorrow. I know it seems ridiculous that 12 yr olds have mobile phones, however, this one still plays with her Sylvanian Families collection so she's not growing up too fast.

Still have more housework to do as MIL on duty tomorrow while I'm at work and I like her to think the house always looks as tidy as it does on a wednesday!

Any ideas for an easy birthday tea? Will have both sets of grandparents here plus my brother and his 2 boys (8 and 10). And all of us minus the intrepid traveller (ds). Was thinking of having lots of french bread plus sausages, ham and making some egg mayo and some mackerel pate. Also bowls of crisps and crudite. Will have to make a victoria sponge as that's all my kids ever want for a birthday cake. Have to do it when I get in from work at around 4.30ish. Am now craving an egg mayonnaise sandwich yet I only had breakfast an hour ago!

johnworf · 09/09/2008 12:33

hehe ladymac you've got it all going on haven't you? Your buffet style tea sounds good to me and similar to something I'd do myself. We're having a similar theme running here where I've an idea to invite all family and friends around so that we're not constantly being (unexpectedly) dropped in on. Then everyone can see Katherine in one go...that's the plan, anyway. Tbh I can't be bothered at the mo - what with tiredness and general baby business - to put together finger food so we're prolly gonna order it and have it delivered. Yep, I'm a lazy sod.

How sweet is your DH? No way would mine do the hoovering unless I fetched the duelling pistol from it's case and put it against his temple. He's made us laugh this morning by telling the MW how tired he is

Katherine hasn't mentioned the nice new wallpaper nor shiny paintword and I'm a bit surprised really. Thought it'd be to her taste

Twas a bit Keystone Cops in our house during the night. I'm sure the routine will come soon enough when these 2 hourly eye drops finish.

jeanjeannie · 09/09/2008 13:23

Afternoon all...wet, wet, wet...*looks round to see if Marti Pellow is in the room.

pwcbird EEwwwwwww, that is by far the most 'ultimate' poo story we've had I don't know wether to congratulate you - or comiserate!? But should there ever be an ITV2 series on 'ultimate Poos' then I reckon it should be in there!

What arses at your hospital - and a whole week for an appointment.... cripes, that's shocking. My dad had letters from his hospital telling him he was dead..........I kid you not- He's old, I grant you (83) but fit as a fiddle....he thought it was bloody hilarious

ladymac your party sounds FAB...and I LOVE Victoria sponge - it's a much maligned cake - often passed over for more 'exciting' ones. What time do you want me there?!

You can't go wrong with egg mayo - or tinned salmon. Dips are good as are lashings of crispy things.

Oh don't miss those nightime loo breaks - I suffered from those really badly - all the way through the pregnancy. My DP never did the hoovering though Lucky you.

johnworf I'm sure Katherine will notice the wallpaper....eventually. Probably when she's scribbling on it

You're more than likely running in adrenalin at the moment....I know I did when LOs were born - then suddenly ....ZZZzzzz!!! How's DH getting on with the night-time partying?!

I think having an all-friends-round-to-see-baby party is a good idea. Wish we'd done that. Don't forget those Costco cakes.....they're spectacular. I've read on other threads here that small children demand them for parties Ooo and while you're at it, Costco do a tray of lovely pastries....get some in for me if you go will you

OP posts:
jeanjeannie · 09/09/2008 13:30

PS. I DO hope we're not all sucked into a black hole after tomorrow's Big Bang Experiment It's about a 50 million to one odds.....apparently. The fact that there are odds available is surely a triffle worrying... Any Quantum physicists out there..?

OP posts:
johnworf · 09/09/2008 13:37

I remember the nocturnal peeing sessions and I don't miss them. Although think I've just swapped them for nocturnal feeding sessions instead

Love the Costco cakes! We always get the banoffee or the double choc one for parties. Not tried the pastries yet but the lemon drizzle cake is superb

Anyone heard from mrsboogie yet? Wonder how the old girl is getting along....or from mrsjupiter recently? Wonder how Eva is fairing?

Katherine was weighed today by MW and has gained 4 oz in two days. Not bad at all. She went and spoilt it all though by having a big poo on the MW (more poo info today).

DH still telling anyone who will listen how tiring it is having a new baby (and here was me getting up in the night...wonder how that one works?) You're prolly right jeanjeannie that I'll zonk out by Thursday when I'm running on empty and adrenalin has been zapped. Still, I'm enjoying the high whilst it lasts

I've even managed to do the housework today and I'm washing everything that stands still long enough ... A delayed nesting hangover perchance?

jeanjeannie · 09/09/2008 13:41

Yes - I was wondering how mrsboogie and mrsjupiter were too. Call in girls when you get the chance

I reckon I must have delayed nesting then - cos, I'm like a deamon with the washing at the moment. I'm evening rubbing away with the Vanish bar to get off stains.... Place stuff of Lenor the other day - DP thought I'd bought smelly candles

OP posts:
johnworf · 09/09/2008 19:17

hehe.....who needs Jo Malone when you can save £££££'s and just buy a bottle of fabric softener. Actually, I put some in an old bottle with a spray nozzle (i.e. febreeze when empty). 1 part softener to 10 parts water. Spray et voila! Place smells like a laundry lovely

Had a cat nap this afternoon between feeding and eye drops and feel refreshed Now I don't have to visit the hospital, I'm catching up with the soaps....but even after 3 months of missing them all, it's only taken a night to catch up. Nuff said?

Still not started using my lovely cotton nappies. I'm using the disposables that came from the hospital but we've only a few left. Hopefully, after our eye review on Thursday, the eye drops will be given at bigger intervals and I can start using the real nappies. Just trying not to give myself too much to do at once. Anyway, all ready to go with them now and looking forward to using them. Think I've gone overboard though as I have nearly 30 although it's a good mixture of XS, newborn and 1 size fits all so we'll see.

jeanjeannie · 10/09/2008 08:03

Morning all.

johnworf hope you got some sleep in-between administering eye drops and generally doing newly arrived baby stuff!

We all go overboard on nappies - and then start to get real on the next size!!! Don't forget - the re-sale value of good ones is excellent

Did anyone watch the 'Other People's Breastmilk' last night? Not sure i want Verity still hanging off me when she comes home from school Nor would I want to dip my strawberries into EBM cream...!

Can't decide what to do today....should I invite the ladies over? Or should I go out...and possibly get rained on?

ladymac Hope your Dds birthday party goes well - and you survive it all!

OP posts:
hedgepig · 10/09/2008 09:53

morning too
jeanjeanie if having the girls around means cake then it is a simple decision in my humble opinion . I didn't see the breast feeding program, but read about it in the paper. I'm really not sure about sharing breast milk maybe with a sister but not someone you don't know.
I just found some moldering lettuce in the bottom of the fridge which made me sick ukkk (I just smelt it I didn't eat it). I am never getting pregnant again I hate being sick. Anyway made up for it by scoffing some cornflake crispy cakes, most yummy.
johnworf hope you managed to get some sleep between the eye drops. I really think blokes can't cope with interrupted sleep as well as us girls, or maybe it is a cunning plot to make us get up!

johnworf · 10/09/2008 10:20

Morning ladies.

Last night's reorganisation of who does what was a great success. DH did feeds/changes/eye drops until 2am and I took over from then on. We both got a nice block of uninterrupted sleep and I'm feeling up to doing a bit of work today whilst Katherine sleeps.

Didn't watch the program on other peoples BM last night but as one whose baby was accidentally fed someone elses milk, the mere thought of it makes me want to vomit (sorry hedgepig) Likewise these women who are feeding their kids when they're nearly teenagers. WHY DO IT? Seriously, these 4 year olds should be happy with a normal diet of solids and not need BM. It really is Little Britain in life imitating art.

Re-sale of nappies is great and I've even bought second hand from www.usednappies.co.uk which is a good site for buying and selling. I'm setting myself Friday as real nappy day when hopefully, most things are settling down.

hedgepig · 10/09/2008 10:56

excellent reorganization plan johnworf. How is she liking home?
good nappy site, i have some up the loft I tried with Ben but never got on with, they brought out excema on this bottom regardless of how may rinses and washing powders I tried. I will try again with this LO but if it doesn't work then I could try selling them on this site.
