mrsboogie · 10/10/2008 23:09

I have had wine too, its great! (until, I expect, when trying to rouse oneself from a befuddled sleep at 4am feeding time)

The Restaurant was good - I loved Monsieur Blanc "when an Eengleeshman he tells you he is a leetle bit concerned zis means he is actually having a panic attack". Also loved that tall chap - (the husband of the woman who mostly cooks things with peas and carrots) hiding the dodgy place mats under the plates. Very good use of initiative, there - he totally got away with it.

johnworf · 11/10/2008 06:48

Woo Hoo. It's hedonist city! No wine here, just more of the vomit like stuff. I suspect that it's K's reflux and the Gaviscon is just not strong enough to hold it at bay......I'll speak to the consultant on Weds and I'm sure they'll prescribe something else.

Other than that, nothing of note to report. I poked my head out this morning to shout the dog in and it was cold, dark and wet (the weather AND the dog). Very depressing these autumnal mornings with the dark mornings and night times.

As for the Restaurant, so glad that woman from the Welsh Wok went. She looked constantly as though she was sucking a lemon. When she was serving the food on the plane she looked as though she was looking for the person who stole her handbag How aggressive was she? Can't stand the man with specs as I've already mentioned. The chinese chef who couldn't cook chinese food? Purlease! Still, none are as bad as the older guy and his daughter and the debacle of the serving high table at Oxford. That was sooooooooooo cringeworthy it was untrue. Glad they've gone

The news is just so bloody depressing at the moment. I keep thinking the world is about the implode and it very well might do. Silver lining is DH informs me the price of bread is set to fall as direct knock-on effect from fall in the price of oil. Go figure the link

Did I mention I'm back to using Sucocrem? Well I am. K used it all the time in hospital but when we got home I bought the Burt's Bees stuff as it was natural. However, the stuff brought her out in blisters so can't use it and it was really expensive too. Daren't tell DH So we're back to the 'chemical laden tar' (my words). At least it keeps nappy rash away

jeanjeannie · 11/10/2008 08:55

Morning all. God - wine - why? oh WHY? mrsboogie I think I was joining you at 4am this morning - had to pootle downstairs for a glass of water. Verity (for the 6th night in a row) woke up every 2 hours for a feed...! What's that all about? I'm back to bed later...DP can deal with them!

LOVED the Harry & Paul show - especially the Northern show bit - wailing laughing I was. Reminded me of some of our Country fair outings at Henley this year!

It's thick fog here - we can't see the trees across the way and Iris finds that very odd.

I agree JW no one was as bad as that awful bloke and his daughter - he was SO arrogant and clueless. Soon as the daughter ditches him and goes solo the better - although she wasn't much cop!

So, what to do today? Stay in with dressing gown on watching rubbish telly? Ah no, that's what i did before kids

OP posts:
johnworf · 11/10/2008 09:27

passes JJ paracetamols

Oooh weather sounds dire where you are however, on a lighter note, BBC man on weather map informs me that weather will buck it's ideas up later today and sun may even put his hat on I'm finding that hard to believe though as at the mo when I look out of the window it's most def a winter scene

JJ I did think of you last night when that sketch was on H&P. Wondered if that's what you got up to at your country fairs down there in southern land!

Poor Verity. I suspect she's having a mad growth spurt. Surprised she isn't still in bed snoring after her alcohol milk Oh, that reminds me mrsb another top tip from mother; bit of brandy/whiskey on tip of finger for rubbing on teething gums. Jeez. Wonder a whole generation of mothers wasn't locked up for child abuse after what they did to us

Yeah that arrogant man and daughter. I watched in horror as he argued with the steward in the dining hall. Fark. I would have decked him. Twonk. Hope he's signing on now. At least no one will have to work with him. I mean, working with the public is soooo not a job for that man. Although mebbe traffic warden springs to mind...... Can you imagine if him and the woman from the Welsh Wok went into business together?

In answer to your question JJ I'd stay in your PJ's and watch crap on tv. It's a no brainer really when weather is rubbish.

At Worf Towers DH is still in bed. He's still under the impression that weekends mean 'lie in' for him I'm off to wake him with my bass drum and cymbals combo. This followed by girly afternoon of just me and K. Boys are off to see City of Ember and eat s**t at MacD's. I'm getting some nice cake in and watching Tess whilst K sleeps. In reality she'll cover me in puke, no time for cake and some b'stard will have deleted Tess from Virgin + box.

SCREAMS!

mrsboogie · 11/10/2008 14:28

haha jw I hope you've got the nicer of the two versions of that afternoon ahead of you

whiskey on the gums jw? hah! that was for lightweight babies! I remember the use of a teaspoon of whiskey in warm water in the bottle of a bedtime "for the colic".

Yep - jj the wine made things just a little bit harder last night but yay - this morning OH wanted to get up and play some game in t'internet so he took D with him and I stayed in bed 'til midday. Oh t'was fab I tell you.

Agree that the dad person was terrible in the Restaurant however to be fair to the poor old geezer I think he was totally doing it so that the daughter could have her dream and it wasn't something he wanted at all. It was just unfortunate that he was so crap at it.

lol@ jw "looking for the person who'd stolen her handbag". I like!

johnworf · 11/10/2008 14:58

Well good for you mrsb staying in bed Your OH is a gem. Mine? He's a piece of coal as he got out of his pit gone 10 I stood in the doorway of bedroom, sleeve rolled up, theatrically looking at my wrist and pointing. 'what TIME do you think it is?' I said in a voice that I think the couple next door heard. Co-incidentally though he said he was just about to get up so there's a thing

Both of the girly plans fell apart I'm afraid. No sick (so far) and K is asleep. But, boys didn't go to crappy MacD's nor cinema instead, found some xmas presents from last year not yet played with Spoiled child springs to mind anyway.....he's in the garden and DH is to-ing and fro-ing from picking up dog poop and watching formula 1. I'm just in raptures that my new nappies arrived so I've been washing all morning

mrsboogie · 11/10/2008 15:31

Agree about the X Factor - OH loves to laugh at the poor deluded souls who audition but I have to admit to watching it to see how Rachel Hylton does as she has a mindblowing voice. Built like a brick Winehouse as someone said in the Guardian's tv guide

To be fair to my mother (for once) I think all the whiskey and double strength night time bottles was the province of my grandmother rather than my her. I think these were her helpful suggestions to my mum when we were babies - not sure how much of it was taken up

Hope you get the sicking up sorted jw

johnworf · 11/10/2008 16:10

aye. but The Smiths 'that joke isn't funny anymore' springs to mind now it's all serious

jeanjeannie · 11/10/2008 20:46

Evening ladies. Gosh - i'm pooped. Walked into town and back - at least a 2.5 mile jaunt.. My shins feel as though they've been slapped with a steel bar

X-Factor - oh no, no. Excrutiating factor. Nasty, horrid telly. Although I shall be watching Peter Kay tomorrow eve and his Pop Factor Jesus Christ thingy. Love mr Kay.

We've just been watching re-runs of Property Ladder, laughing to oursleves like the Cadbury Smash tin men Aliens..... "hahaha, poor Tarquin and Araminta, what are they doing now we wonder...? Job Centre?" I bet Phil & Kirsty & The Beeny are hard-pushed to find people on any ladder apart from one to repair a leaky gutter...

mrsboogie HUGE gold star for you for wangling a long lie in - clever girl, must get tips.

jw best laid plans went to pot - never mind - at least the nappies arrived and there's still Tess to watch

I've got an early start tomorrow for my spa - so I'll check in later looking smug and hopefully somewhat soothed and smooth after my seaweed wrap!

OP posts:
johnworf · 12/10/2008 08:21

JJ have a fabulous day darling. Make full use of the seaweed/donkey pee/yaks milk and whatever else they have (not forgetting your usual of monks semen, naturally ) I'm envious but go ahead and have a ball!

Yes, I think the property programmes will be fooked now that a) no one can get a mortgage and b) no one call sell their house. Also the Kirsters has just dropped another sprog so she's probably laid up on her chaise longue anyway.

I'm gonna watch Mr Kay tonight as well. Local lad and all but also extremely funny with it

K honked everywhere again last night and there seems to be a pattern emerging........she cluster feeds every evening and I think the sheer volume is too much for her tiny tum. I will of course check this with her consultant but that's my theory for all it's worth. She slept through from 10.30pm to 5.30am this morning however, and I hasten to add this, I felt like throwing her through the window yesterday as she would not settle from 3.30pm onwards and demanded I hold her whilst she cried/wriggled/pulled funny faces etc.

mrsboogie · 12/10/2008 14:34

ahh lucky old jj curently being preened polished and pampered

jw the wriggling , crying and pulling faces that you describe is a daily feature in this household also and here it also involves getting increasingly hot and sweaty to the point that clothes have to be removed (Darragh's, not mine). He will then fall into an exhausted slumber only to rouse himself half a dozen times with an outraged shriek. I had it last night from midnight until 3am then he slept until 6am. No honking though - although I might swap your honking for the 10.30 to 6.30 sleep!

Because I did the night feeding OH took him downstairs again this am so I could have another lie-in. And when I eventually appeared I was rewarded with a really sweet look of recognition and a big smiley face. Which was nice.

I am a fan of Mr Kay but I have my doubts about this thing tonight. I doubt it will be Phoenix Nights although I hope I am wrong. The Stephen Fry thing looks worth a go also...

johnworf · 12/10/2008 15:30

I take it the big smiley face was from Darrash and not OH? What a lovely way to start the day with your LO. I bet it made you forget the gritting of teeth during the night didn't it? I say to K 'stop looking so cute while I'm cross with you' and I just can't actually be cross with her

She looks at me as though she knows me from somewhere but can't remember where. As for smiles, had the odd one but never can determine whether they are wind or not.

Yeah the noises. Sheesh. What is that all about? And she gets herself in to a hot sweat as well. She even froths at the mouth which is rather odd. I can't figure it out at all.

Lucky you with a lie in...again! You must impart your secret. I was up this morning at 7 (I guess it was a lie in of sorts) but DH did get up with her at 5.30.

I've had my older 3 popping in or phoning today inbetween doing some chores and seeing to LO. My oldest son thinks I'm barking. He came to pick up one of our old pcs for his new flat and saw the pile of xmas presents I'd been wrapping this morning. But, he does know what I'm like so it wasn't a big deal I think like the rest of those that know me well, they just leave me to get on with it.

Oh talking of xmas, I was talking to my SiL the other day re my FiL who is in a nursing home. He normally goes to her for xmas lunch and I thought this year would be no different however, she's decided that she can't deal with him this year and so not sure what'll happen. I'd have him but he's always got some bug flying around from the nursing home so I'm hoping that DH's other brother will have him - doubtful as his wife doesn't really do this side of the family, only her own. I have absolutely no idea why I feel bad and even guilty as he's not my father but xmas and all and...gah! Bloody families huh? There's always some dilema before the day itself.

Mebbe I'll run away to join the circus on Christmas Eve

Any news on Mrsjupiter? Not seen her for ages and ages. And Kaz too. Hope they and the LO's are doing ok.

mrsboogie · 12/10/2008 16:40

No word from Kaz or Mrs J for quite a while. Was wondering about both last night - hope they are ok. Sending you good thoughts across the intertubes ladies

We should be hearing from hedgepig soon

I think the lie-ins occur because a) my OH feels that I am left to get on with it all day during the week and b)mornings are when D is without fail quiet and well behaved and catches up on his lost sleep from the night before leaving daddy to get on with shooting people on the big telly...

Ah jw wrapping Christmas presents eh? gosh what a fantastically organised woman you are. It defies my understanding - as no thoughts of Christmas will enter my head until the second week of December at the earliest.

You mustn't feel guilty about the poor old FiL - as you are forbidden from allowing potential sources of infection across the threshold there is nothing you can do. You should leave it to the others to feel guilty and sort something out - I assume they are fully aware of the situation re K and the risk of bugs?. Still, easier said than done, I suppose. I am lucky in that my family reside in Ireland and don't expect us all to descend for Christmas (in fact it would be positively frowned upon)and the iLs will be happy enough to receive a short visit from the firstborn grandson and great grandson in the personage of young Mr D on Christmas Day and apart from that we will be left to our own devices with no relatives to worry about I hope.

johnworf · 12/10/2008 19:01

Wow mrsb I wish we didn't have family (mainly DH's I hasten to add) breathing down our neck. Tbh this year will be kinda weird as MiL was given the terminal verdict just before xmas last year so we knew it'd be her last and did our best to make her feel like it was a good one. She lived around the corner from us and SiL lives 5 mins in the car away. I keep my distance tbh as I can't be doing with the constant interfering and wanting to know the goings on in our life. Yeah, they're pretty good in not coming round knowing about K. Mind you they have seen me growl so perhaps they got the message

I am usually an organised person but this year it seems, oh I dunno, I just want things out of the way so there's the least stress possible at xmas. It's my busiest time for orders and I'm going to have to work around K so it'll be interesting to see how that one works!

Just got myself a mini dodopad for 2009. Never seen nor heard of them before but stumbled across them on the net. They're right up my street for organising! Love diaries....oh yes.

Can't you tell in my former life before DH I was a PA?....nah. Knew you wouldn't

P.S. Apols for changing Darragh's name before to 'Darrash'. Typo

mrsboogie · 12/10/2008 19:32

of course - I forget that you are self employed and not on six months maternity leave like myself - puts a totally different perspective on things jw

I'm very keen on not having too much interference from (or dealings with) relatives - which is partly why I live across the sea from most of mine...

oooh I like that website: "The Dodo team of social researchers calculates that out of every ten harassed mothers, six are harassed because they can't remember what it was they know they have forgotten; four have remembered they have an appointment, a meeting or whatever, but have lost the piece of paper they wrote down the time on. "

That could have been written about me - I am forever writing lists of things that I need to do and losing them. OH and I were recently saying that we need some kind of wall planner for appointments and the like now that we have responsibilities...

mrsboogie · 12/10/2008 20:31

Strictly Come Dancing it is then...{hmmm}

johnworf · 13/10/2008 09:09

Can't believe how quiet it's been on here of late. I know JJ was busy y'day but where is everyone hiding?

I'm hoping that hedgepig will be sufficiently recovered to give us the low down on little Oliver's entrance

Wish my relatives lived across the sea from me! In fact all of mine and DH's families lived far away. Gosh, that sounds really awful when I read it back but I can't be doing with constant nose poking in. To be fair most are ok, it's just SiL who rings everyday for an update - as though she's entitled to one! Gah. Think she's getting the message now though as I've been def off with her of late and the ringings are starting to decrease. Phew.

Anyhoo, it's Monday and wet here. Fabulous

Oh, Peter Kay. Nearly forgot. Watched the first half and laughed out loud. Recorded the second as went to bed due to exhaustion. Looking forward to watching it later. 2 up 2 down were hilarious and I'll be very surprised if the disability rights people haven't been ringing the phones off the hooks to complain. Hah!

jeanjeannie · 13/10/2008 10:02

Morning all - quick pop in and then pop off again as the munchkins need entertaining!!

OOoooo, I'm all preened and glossy. I tell ya - that lounging by a poolside, dipping into a jacuzzi and being wrapped in clay is VERY tiring. I don't know how wealthy women of leisure keep up with the pace.....hard life

Anyhow - back to land of living. I shall read thread and pop back later. Watched 1st half of Peter Kay and was crying laughing - Rik Astley and the 2 up 2 down girl falling off her chair....priceless.

Where's Hedgepig?? Hope she and Oliver are ok and ready to talk to us....
Check in Later. Can't bring myself to say 'Laters' - it's the pedant in me xx

Helloooo! [FT sheepishly peeks round the door to see if she is welcome] Sorry to have been absent so long...I had just about caught up on all the events on here while I was in the depths of Cornwall when we were struck down en famillee by the dreadful gastic flu bug that seems to be sweeping the district which laid Alex for a week, poor mite. He was only just recovered (albeit 1.3kg lighter!)in time for his first birthday (involving 2 parties, 1 for his pals in the afternoon and another for family and friends in the evening) Immediately followed by a wedding in Scotland. And the last week has been taken up with trying to get back in control of the washing/cleaning/ironing/dusting etc etc mountain that built up while we were otherwise occupied.
I never got to congratulate JW on the homecoming of princess K or MrsB on the arrival of Darragh..and now, just from reading this page, it seems Hedgepig has had Oliver too ....congratulations to you all.... what else did I miss????

Just laughing with you about Peter Kay last night...I did find it funny but was slightly disconcerted to realise that "Geraldine" bore an uncanny resemblance to someone I knew, and then horrified to realise that the "someone" was me! especially as no less than 2 of the outfits he wore are actually in my wardrobe [arrrggghh! utterly horrified emoticon] !!!!! Slimming World Plan started today! if I come on here every time I want to eat cake or chocolate at least I'll be a regular poster again.

johnworf · 13/10/2008 10:25

Welcome back JJ. Sounds like you had a fab time y'day Lucky you. Is today back to reality with a bump or not too bad? Hope the girls played up for your OH y'day so that he didn't get off completely scot free at his brothers! (yes, I'm evil, I know.)

I dunno how rich women do it personally. It must be such a fag having all those people waiting hand and foot on you....

ladymac · 13/10/2008 10:26

Have just caught up on all the weekend goings on. Gosh mrsb and johnworf you're really making me look forward to the early weeks with a newborn! Just a thought but have you tried a bit of the homeopathic remedy Chamomila? It's the ingredient in those little sachets of teething powders - we call it baby coke in our house. It is also recommended for babies and children who just don't know what they want or can't settle.

jeanjeannie · 13/10/2008 12:32

floriatosca - wow - that's a lot of bugs and parties, you should be lying on a chaise lounge, hand to forhead asking for the smelling salts! Damm fine to have you back and am PMSL @ realising you and Geraldine share the same wardrobe You can always come here and eat cyber cake - all the fun and none of the calories I'll start.....Victoria Sponge anyone?!

ladymac am liking the sound of baby coke - I reckon it could be a winner for Verity.

johnworf nah - no idea how these posh birds and WAGS keep up the pace of a leisurely life. It was lovely to lounge and be pampered but because of Verity feeding every 2 hours for the last 10 days my norks keep filling up and I had to go and pump and dump. Didn't manage to fit it in before my seaweed/clay wrap and as I got hotter and hotter I began to panic thinking I was going to spring a leak

OP posts:
FloriaTosca · 13/10/2008 12:54

JeanJeannie; Glad you had a nce time at the spa but totally understand the fear of the dams bursting at an inappropriate time...and sadly also understand the two hrly feeds thing...you would think at 12 months we'd be over that wouldn't you?...but Alex has done it to me every time he has had a growth spurt and the whole time he was ill (though most of it seemed to come gushing back, all over me, the furniture, the carpet, the dog etc etc...sorry if tmi) and while he was recovering too (trying to make up for losing 2kg...wish it had made me lose 10% of my body weight too so I didnt look like Peter Kay in drag )

mrsboogie · 13/10/2008 13:02

glad to see you back ladies -- me and jw had to eat all the cake yesterday - far too much!

gosh it is lovely here today - glorious Autumn weather - it has really been warming up round these parts in the last few days, last night it was so hot I couldn't sleep - would have thought I was having a hot flush if I didn't know better!

Well, Darragh decided at the weekend that he had had enough of the 2 hrly feeds and relaxed it to every four or five hours - with longer sleeps in between. He almost had me fooled - then it became clear that this new regime has altered his body clock so it now thinks that 4am is morning

I don't mind him being awake or even having to hold /rock him at that time but he is sooo wriggly and fidgetty it is nigh on impossible to hold him for long.

Sorry to put you off ladymac but I am sure D is just a particularly demanding wee bugger

johnworf · 13/10/2008 13:25

Helllooo there FloriaTosca I was beginning to wonder where you'd gone and as if by magic Sorry to hear that you've been hit by the dreaded lurgy but made up for it on the party circuit. Yee haw! Has it been so long that K had not even come home since last we saw you? She's been back at base for 4 weeks y'day now so it's ages

ladymac no going back now! Don't let us moaning minnies put you off. You know what it's like anyway - you've been there before but 'mummy memory' has kicked in and you've forgotten it all (otherwise you wouldn't do it again would you?!) It'll all come flooding back to you in a few months without fail.

Katherine did well last night and had her last feed at 10pm and didn't rouse us until 6am. Good girl. However, we're still having the evening of grizzle, feed and cry but as Bruce Hornsby said, that's just the way it is I think it's wind. ladymac does the baby coke work for wind as well? If so, I'll buy a pallet load.
