Hello all - well, this is our third message board..so it's a popular topic.

Afternoon all. I'm frazzled - Verity requires full-on attention...constantly [knackered emoticon]

ladymac It's a full on ginger girl's house here! Iris is a light redhead, Verity's looks to be quite dark and mine - is just fading! DP is VERY dark with ginger bits in beard. Both girls though have very dark eyelashes (unlike me) so it's hard to tell what shade and depth it'll end up being.

Got my P & T from ebay, el cheapo! It's in mint condition though. It's a sport but I didn't bother test driving one as I knew there wasn't really much alternative. There's a great ebay seconds market as people often don't have them for long. Don't give up the bugaboo yet!! I used mine again yesterday and I love it more and more!!

Let us know how you get on with the HV Iris has suddenly started to say loads of words....rubbish pronuciation but it's getting there. I reckon till they're about 2.5 then it's not a 'Corporal Jones' panic moment

BTW ladymac I read the last line of your post as "cake to be made and a professional health spa to go to That'd be more fun!

hedgepig good on you for the walk and ONLY ONE piece of CAKE!! Yes, remind me of the DD?? *cue dramatic music!

johnworf Wow - fab results at the clinic - well done you Gawd, haven't weight myself since I had the c-section and I asked them not to tell me what it was!!

Oh what to do with the kids this afternoon? Maybe I'll hot house them - I'll print out some flash cards!! Ah - sod it - I'll get a platic box out and fill it with water and toys!

johnworf · 03/10/2008 18:24

hedgepig · 03/10/2008 19:35

I'll see what I can do JW off to bounce on my ball.

jeanjeannie · 03/10/2008 21:18

Bounce hedgepig bounce! Vindaloo for breaky - Sex for lunch and BOTH for dinner

Dust off those hats and gloves ladies - apparently it's gonna be cold this weekend. See, Hedgepig another reason to give birth asap - nice warm hospital - all cosy - smashing!!

Having haircut tomorrow - oooOOOOooo - that'll make me feel more yummy

The health visitor was very nice but came 15 minutes early and the cake was still in the oven! She suspects that Elizabeth is not hearing lower sounds very well, though she seems to hear voices, noises etc that are higher pitched. I had wondered if there was something wrong with her hearing as she didn't always respond to her name. But then she'd turn round when the dog barked or the doorbell rang so I'd discounted it. Now I'm feeling terrible that I didn't pick up on it. You'd think I'd know my way round this child-rearing business, her being my 4th and all. Anyway, nothing is confirmed yet so we're trying not to worry. The best bit is that the wait for a hearing test is 10-12 weeks, so we're going to cough up £150 to have one done privately. Just when I'd been singing the praises of the NHS re my CVS. I'm hoping it's something like glue ear that can be treated or maybe it's been caused by her many ear infections. Every time I've ever taken her to see the GP we've come away with antibiotics for an ear infection which is usually accompanied by a throat infection. Poor little thing.

Thank heavens I'd baked a cake. Friend came round with her lo to console me and I had 2 slices. DH came home and we tried to encourage Elizabeth to walk from one of us to the other and guess what, she managed a step and a half unaided then clapped her hands and laughed! She thought it was a hilarious game and kept going till she'd tired herself out. So she's on the way to walking even if the talking might be a bit further away.

johnworf · 04/10/2008 08:57

ladymac I'm racking my brains here in an attempt to remember how old Elizabeth is but I have 2 years in my head right now Really wouldn't worry about the non talking. Both my sons were barely talking by 2.5 and the (local authority) nursery called in the speech therapist. Nothing was wrong with them apart from laziness. And they did it in their own good time - and now you can't shut them up

I'm surprised she's not had a hearing test at 8 months or have they abandoned that one in the intervening years since mine had them? I know that Katherine will have one at 8 months but she is targetted as the Vancomycin she had for sepsis in NICU can cause deafness - although saying that she passed the machine hearing test in SCBU. Not sure if all babies have them at 8 months like they used to though.

OOOOh JJ as you having a Posh haircut? Something radically different or is it a trim and tidy? I could do you a cheap deal as I have some rusty blunt scissors hanging around my desk somewhere........ I must say, there is nothing like coming out of the salon and really feeling fabulous and new and shiny and sometimes, even sexy! oooh la la!

Right hedgepig you're simply not bouncing hard enough so I'm going to have to shove you on our trampoline in the back garden. Now get bouncing that baby out !!!

I think I'm having a cake crisis. Spurred on by my official weight loss, I'm thinking of foresaking all cake until I've lost another stone. I don't want to but I know that I must start thinking of shifting some more what with theis diabetes thingy looming and all....

...speaking of which, where is mrsb? In fact, where has everyone gone of late? So many faces seem to be missing or is it just me?

It's cold this morning and central heating has been officially switched on with more ceremony than Oxford Street at Christmas. DH is still in bed after doing all of the night shifts for me. I cried off as the arm where I had my flu jab is quite sore Anyway, he forgot to put a wrap on K's nappy (why oh why does he always put a Fluffle on her?) so there was s**t all over her when I changed her clothes this morning. Still, can't really complain at him as he did let me stay in bed

So, need some gossip today....all replies gratefully received. All names will be changed to protect the identity of those involved

hedgepig · 04/10/2008 10:23

Ladymac don't worry about not picking up a possible hearing loss it is very tricky if it is only part of the range, at least things are going forward now

So bouncing has not worked I'm afraid JW we are off to a table tennis marathon in the next village maybe that will help. DS has packed his sports stuff (football boots and shin pad ) so he can join in. Its due date today so absolutely no chance of an arrival today

johnworf · 04/10/2008 10:46

Will come today as a) you've given up hope b) you're out and about!

Yay

jeanjeannie · 04/10/2008 11:37

Morning - it's SATURDAY! Baby on boobs, laptop at hand and Saturday kitchen on telly

ladymac yes, don't worry about the hearing - you may find that there is nothing wrong at all. That does seem to be the current stock phrase of the HVs here. There are 4 people I know of who've been told that and therer was nothing wrong! If we whisper the word 'chocolate' Iris will come running! Selective hearing! She's 2 next month and only a smattering of words. I'd rather her be like that, than like precocious child with her verbal dictionary and flash cards

johnworf Posh haircut...as in the Beckham skin and bones monster?! Pah, no, I'd look like a Guinea Pig....just a trim for me. Any length above my chin is WRONG! Since I've stopped editing a hair mag I've noticed my appointments with celeb hairdressers have disappeared!!! Mind you - some of them are pants But can I just say that anyone at John frieda, Charles (chaz to his mates!) Worthington or Trev Sorbie are worth the £££ And Trev throws a gem of a birthday party Got to love him just for that!!

GOSSIP!!! OOooo, I love gossip - what sort of gossip? I see there is a new 'sleb twaddle' message board...and there is so much I could post but can't Twenty years of being in the media I've got stories that'd make yer eyes pop....and all true of course

OP posts:
johnworf · 04/10/2008 12:06

JJ you have rubbed shoulders with the God's who cut hair? . Well you can't lure me with that snippet and not expect me to want more....you temptress!

I've never had a celeb hairdresser. Just Tony who owns the salon down the road and plays bridge with DH. He's jewish if that counts? His shop is called 'ginger's which I've always meant to ask him is some ironic cockney rhyming slang for male hairdressers sexuality. Btw, he's very happily married...to a woman.

Re talking/hearing, my boys didn't have to talk as they had a big sister who interpreted and translated all grunts and points and followed out their instructions to the letter (or grunt). As I said, laziness. Iris isn't daft is she? I bet she can hear the ice cream man 5 streets away (if they still have them in your neighbourhood) or the opening music to her favourite tv programme from the house next door

Informed DH that all Christmas shopping is now done - finished it this morning. He's in shock and thinks I need carting off as he only starts thinking about shopping on Xmas Eve. Hence why I'll usually end up with an acrylic polo neck, size 10, still in a Tesco bag for my present

hedgepig · 04/10/2008 17:55

Do they still make acrylic polo necks JW, I had one in the 70's I think.
DH has finished painting the walls so only the woodwork to do tomorrow (and other bits an bobs) and the babies room is finished-ish. Need carpet and a wardrobe but it is nearly there woppeee
I am in awe of your Christmas shopping prowess

johnworf · 04/10/2008 19:12

hedgepig they must still make them as he always manages to get me one even though I've given him in writing that I do not like/wear acrylic; I can't abide polo necks (perhaps some birth trauma? Dunno but I feel like I'm choking when I wear them) and I'm def NOT a size 10.

Glad to hear that decorating is almost over. It's psychological. As soon as the last bit of furniture is back in the room, then you'll go into labour

LOL @ shopping prowess Love it but please, don't encourage me as DH thinks I'm bonkers.

Well I'm gonna put my feet up as I've just stuffed my face with chinese. K needs a bath but I'm not waking her. No way. I'll try and offer my body to DH in exchange for a foot message in the meantime. That'll be 2 minutes well spent

jeanjeannie · 04/10/2008 20:55

Evening all. Gosh - I'm thrilled with new hair. No celeb snipper was involved - just posh, gay Russell - who was marvellous and I'm flipping it all about the place

Popped into the new Primark and walked straight out. There was a poor, flustered security guard shouting that there was a 40 minute wait in the queue to pay....and STILL they all waited Madness.

johnworf I too am in awe of your Christmas organisation.....you scare me !!
Now, I'm rather partial to the way acrylic warms you up instantly but then comes all the sweat and the smell....nice. Plus there's the fire hazard thing. A tad too much static and whooosh - you're up like a nylon wedding dress over a candle!

Hahahahah - Iris has just discovered the joys of the ice cream van....she goes bonkers when she hears it streets away and watches out of the window for it. Doesn't get her an ice cream though!

hedgepig you've got so much further with your nursery than with ours! It's still a junk room We have plans - just not put them into action! Now it's almost done I reckon the LO will feel free to arrive

OP posts:
johnworf · 05/10/2008 10:03

awwww poor Iris. No ice cream even when dilligently waiting by the window.

Acrylic is the material of satan and yep, you're right on all counts re flammability, smell, feel, general ickness of this fabric.

I've avoided Primark (on the few times I've dared enter) at all times apart from Sunday opening times. On the dot. Dash around for what I want and into the queue which by then is only a small one of 10 deep. I know a lot of it is fab value but purlease, they're not giving it away and it's not stuff straight off the catwalk neither. The clothes aside, the egyptian cotton bedding isn't bad nor are the cotton oxford pillowcases. I'm a fan of both

I think we need pics to see new hair do in all it's swishiness It's fab when it's all glossy and silky and just totally shiney when it's first done. No idea how they do it as mine always looks dull after 1 wash Any secrets as to why this happens jj?

jeanjeannie · 05/10/2008 10:33

HEAT jw heat...and no, I'm not refering to the gossip rag extraordinaire but to the secret of glossy hair! Heat and brushing = shine. Mind you some of the professional gloss products help although they can make your hair lank a day later....see mine today for details!!!

God - it's wetter than a wet thing in wet land No ploughing match and terrier racing for us today

Off to MILs for dinner - hoorah no cooking today!!

Iris is naked and playing with a huge plastic storage box filled with water - el cheapo toys win again

Sorry I disappeared for so long!
I had a little girl on Saturday at 7 am!
Miranda
7 lbs 2 pz
I got out of hospital late on Sunday night and am still really really sore, I was induced and she came very quickly, loads of stitches but I'm so relieved it's over and she's feeding like a mighty hungry lass.
They kept us in because my waters had gone and they wanted to be sure neither of us had any infection.
Congratulations to everyone and all the best for those on the way, she's shouting for more milk so I'd better stumble off....
Phew!

OP posts:
johnworf · 05/10/2008 11:10

Wow, so another one has had hers. Btw I like the name Miranda too. Glad that she's ok. By my mathimacations, that'd be over a fortnight ago-ish?

Not been to Sept thread well, since I had LO really. Seemed daft to go there when I'd already given birth in May! What were you doing in there JJ?? Just trawling? Or was it the birth announcements?

I trawled y'day and found a thread something along the lines of AIUT want to play Goldberg Variations as pass the parcel music at my LO's birthday party....I was in stitches. It ws absolutely hilarious. Obviously a spoof

Lovely that Iris is getting wetter than well, outside is. Even better, no cooking for you today. Hurrah! Win/win.

I've noted your tips for shiny, happy hair but I rarely blow dry/straighten my hair as it just goes frizzy, even with John F's help in a bottle. Mine is naturally curly so I just leave it to it's own devices once it's washed. Probably why it looks like it does then

jeanjeannie · 05/10/2008 12:30

Hahaha - I saw that Goldberg variations pass the parcel thread...hilarious! Can't wait for party time - we're so not going down the 'themed party' route. It's going to be good old fashioned fun and Medised jellies at the end

Ooooo - I've got curly hair too - it also does what the heck it wants. I may give out the advice on how to get glossy locks but hey, that's only cos I don't take it myself!! I warned the hairdresser yesterday that one false move with the scissors, and he cut the layers too short, then i'd end up an 80s bubble cut within minutes of leaving the salon

I think everyone is leaving us I did chance upon a thread in parenting about being 40 something parents - shed loads of people on it - but not very lively. Perhaps when Hedgepig drops (hedgepig did you hear that dear? keep bouncing and eating the vindaloo )then we should move over to parenting. I think most of us have either popped or have little ones - like pwcbird. AH - pwcbird miss you

OP posts:
johnworf · 05/10/2008 13:54

oh there is a 40 + thread? I shall seek it out and add my two penneth worth.

Know what you mean about the kevin keegan look

ladymac · 05/10/2008 14:33

I'm not going anywhere!

Perhaps there aren't that many pregnant over 40s then. I was on the 'TTC at 40+' thread and sadly there weren't too many graduates. I lurked a bit on the 'due April 2009' thread for a bit, not posting until I was sure the pregnancy was viable. But somehow I felt as a 40 something mother of 4 I didn't quite fit in. So I ended up not posting at all. That's probably just me though, nothing to do with the people on that thread.

Poor Elizabeth, we've all been talking to her like my mum talks to foreign people. Except with high-pitched voices.

johnworf · 05/10/2008 14:55

ladymac when you talk to her is it like a fat yorkshire man requesting egg and chips in Benidorm? Poor Elizabeth I imagine one day she'll turn around and be like Stewy from Family Guy

When this thread first started earlier this year there were loads of pregnant, TTC or just had LO who were over 40. I dunno where they all went but the hardcore of lurkers are still here to amuse and annoy

mrsboogie · 05/10/2008 15:27

hello all!

Not been on for a couple of days as my younger sis and her bf arrive for a visit to inspect the sprog on Friday and have just departed. I think he (the bf) will think we live on domino's pizza as we have had it both times he's been here. D has been assiduously sticking to his regime of nightly screaming fits so, after having a cold dinner at 11pm for the umpteenth time, I have abandoned the whole dinner idea for now.

He is still feeding every two hours more or less on a 24 hr basis so am pretty knackered.
Also have been v naughty and had him sleeping in bed with us which he loves - and which keeps him very settled through the night.

So, what have I missed? I see there has been a hair conversation - s subject even closer to my heart than cake! Am a massive hair person (not massive hair obv - just massively fussed about my hair) Spend a fortune on kerastase products and have had GHD straighteners since they were invented. I have v thick coarse hair so all this effort is essential rather than desirable.

Oh and talk of moving...eeek. This thread has kept me sane at various times over the last few months don't go wandering off without me y'all

ladymac · 05/10/2008 16:30

johnworf the role of Stewie Griffin in our house is already taken by my son, who was more eloquent than I could ever be by the age of 5. Therefore from the same age he could top me in any argument. That child was born to captain the Debating Society, attend Cambridge etc etc. However he has no common sense to speak of. Which may be why he is stuck in Korea missing the start of his course after not applying for his Russian student visa early enough.

johnworf · 05/10/2008 16:52

hahahaha@ladymac. It's always like that isn't it! No common sense but brilliant mind.

mrsb I thought you'd emigrated but I'm glad to see that you're back with us. What's up with living off pizza? Sounds perfectly acceptable to me...I just wish it would come true.

Naughty little Darragh already sneaking in your bed. Although 2 hourly feeding, I'd be chucking my baby through the window No idea how you're doing it dear....obviously have more stamina than me.

Seems that coarse hair is popular today. Even coarser is the grey that comes through at my temples and roots. I'm due for a top up. Honestly, grey hair is made of steel wire.

mrsboogie · 05/10/2008 17:33

even worserer than grey hair is grey eyebrows - which I have recently started growing - they prong out horizontally in order to attract maximum attention to themselves

there's one worse place to have grey hairs... ... but I don't look down there so won't be any the wiser when it happens

'ere jw what's all this about you giving up cake? wasn't it you told me just the other day that life was too short to give up cake? eh? hmmmm?

I have four weeks to try to lose a bit of podginess before this wedding I am going to (I actually weighed myself yesterday and am exactly same as pre-preg weight but before anyone accuses me of smuggery I was and still am four stone overweight...)

Speaking of which I am at a total loss on wedding gift ideas -anyone got any suggestions for modestly priced gifts of the non-toaster variety?
