excuses for not drinking

Going to my pil tomorrow night for dinner and staying over so cant be that I'm driving - and I have never not had a drink when at their house, except when pregnant with ds.

I know similar threads have been done before, but any ideas would be gratefully received.

Antibiotics?

stomach bug? Get DH to help you pretend? ie he quietly drinks yours/throws it down sink when no one is looking?

hangover? - let's you eat, but look ill while wine is passed round!

Detox?

I normally go for 'I'm driving' or 'I don't think its a good idea as I have been really unwell recently and advised not to drink', both of which are true so I don't think its really lying. The trouble is that people often guess and now that I'm on my 3rd pregnancy I can't be bothered with lying all the time and think it might be easier if people just knew!

Cystitis - means you can drink lots of water (which is good in pregs), it explains the frequent trips to the loo and is embarrasing enough that no one asks you anymore about it.

I had it for 4 weeks before i told people I was pregs (I'm a bit of a booze hound when not with child, so it's bloody obvious when i'm not drinking!).

I told people I was on tablets that I couldn't drink with - most people assume antibiotics and don't like to ask any more questions!

What do you normally drink? couldn't you just keep helping yourself to ice and soda if its wine, you could have a teeny amount and just keep watering it down. or say you are dieting and are cutting down on alcohol, but this might mean you have to pass on dessert to make it more plausabe!

I got DH to drink mine while I pretended like Bling suggests. Surprisingly easy (although DH was rather drunk at the end of the evening)!

did that last time on a work christmas night out with a friend - she doesnt really remember much of the night - but it'll just be four of us, so think they would notice if dh drank for me.

will go along the tablet/infection line and hope they dont ask direct questions. wouldnt put it past them though knowing my pil.

I have over-educated friends, so I looked up the name of an antibiotic which makes you sick if you drink (as opposed to one which simply doesn't work as well when you drink). Unlikely to be a problem with PIL, but at a hen do when I was 10 weeks it was bloody vital! The handy antibiotic in question is metronidazole, commonly prescribed by dentists!

Ive got a hen do coming up and ill be 9/10wk so im calling bride to be day before saying, dont worry im still coming but feel really ill, hopefully that will keep people at bay for the whole wkd, my best friend and sister will be getting me vodka and coke (without the vodka!!) but its the shots that i cant get away with so if abit unwell they mite not bother with me!!!
