Oh wise ones....can anyone give me a rough idea how much is taken off in 'contrbutions' from your basic £117 per week SMP. i'm panicking about my 'take home' money when it all kicks into gear in a few weeks....thanks and much appreciated

You won't pay Tax AFAIK but you may pay a little NI.

Thanks ladies. Gr8 news if you don't have to pay tax althought the official website does indicate that it is taxable...if anyone has any more info would be very grateful. Thanks again.

When I had ds I didn't pay tax on my smp (standard smp pay)
Think it depends on if your employer tops up your smp, this may get taxed if over the tax bracket.

Oh I got taxed on mine as I still had my company car which tool me over the threshold

I think it is taxable if it goes over your tax free allowance i.e the amount you can earn before paying tax

Remotew · 20/08/2008 12:34

£117 will be just under the weekly tax allowance so no tax. If its subject to NIC then it will be under £2 I reckon.

lilymolly · 20/08/2008 12:35

yeah but other things affect you tax allowance like company cars, healthcare etc.

Ok....that makes things a little clearer. thanks guys. x
