Do they usually induce in the evening/overnight?

Have to go in to see consultant tomorrow at 9am and the MW I spoke to on Friday said they will probably induce me tomorrow (i'll be 40 +11). Thing is, will they be likely to do it pretty straight away, or be sent home and told to come back that evening? Having major childcare/dog care issues

At my hospital the inductions take place in the morning, pretty much straight away. I was taken up on to the ward at 9am, they had the gels ready, gave me an internal at 9.45 & said my waters could be broken no need for induction, so sent immediately down to labour ward. Had to summon dh from work. 5hrs later dd arrived.

They will do it when you are present and correct for it to be done.

I was told to go in early morning,which I did, but I don't think anything was administered untill nearly noon. DS was born 5am the next morning.

With DD I had childcare problems, so told them I wouldn't go in untill 40+15, as I knew I had child care that day. Luckily she was born at 40 +11.

I managed to avoid it, but I was booked in to be induced the morning after I went into labour. Consultant had said it would be done in the morning as soon as I arrived since they preferred not to have women going into labour during the night if possible as partners weren't allowed on the antenatal ward at night, and it wasn't pleasant to have to manage contractions through the night alone on the ward until labour was established enough to be transferred to the delivery suite and call home.

They "did" me in the morning about 30 mins after i got there. First day it didn't work at all. Tried again the next morning about 9.30 and my contractions started about 11.30. dd was born 9 the following morning. I must recommend getting a private room if you can. I know you usually have to pay but it well worth it. At least you get a bit of privacu and peace and quiet )like you would if you stayed at home until the later stages...

Oh righty, thanks. Last time I was started on the gel at 9pm, in labour from 1am but not full swing until 5pm. I better get DH to come with me then.

At my hospital they do it anytime. I have been lucky and been induced twice in the morning which resulted in having the baby in the evening.

I had to go in for 6pm ish and as induced a couple of hours later. It took anothr 48 hours before DS made his arrival. Take a good book!

My first induction was about 8pm, with baby arriving about 8am, second induction was supposed to be 8am, but was actually more like 10am, with baby arriving about 1.30pm. I was 42 weeks with both, and labours were pretty quick.

i was induced in the morning. it can take ages for the induction method to take affect (ihad the gel) and i was told iot can take up to three days for it to happen.

I was admitted at 40+4 with high BP and induced the following afternoon at around 4pm. Contractions kicked in properly around 10pm, waters broke and got sent to delivery ward soon after - very relieved as like LenniEd said dh had been sent home and I was not enjoying doing it on my own. They told me they usually induced in the late afternoon as it often took more than one dose, and that was then given in the morning.

I was told to come in at 7 pm and my contractions started at 2.30 am but it took until 4.29 am next morning for baby to arrive!

I think next time I'll argue for

(a) waiting a bit longer before induction, as it's supposed to be 10 days and it wasn't

(b) Starting things in the morning, as with a child still under 2 we obviously have childcare issues. Also, 7 pm on a ward with a shift handover meeting which went on a while is a dreadful time to start. I was sick and the woman in the next bed sent her dp to get someone to change my sheets. The night midwife once the meeting was over was great, but the start wasn't pleasant or reassuring

Also, I don't want to be away from ds for 3 nights if I can help it.

i had to go in at 2pm, got the 1st gel at 3pm and the 2nd at 10pm. Ds was born at 3.20pm the next day

I found my hospital leaflet the other day. For first baby they take you in at 7 pm, for other babies they ask you to go in at 8 am, presumably partly because of childcare issues.
