No approx. 23 weeks is 5 mths

it depends how you count it - 6 months is only 24 weeks if you count a month as 4 weeks. Which would make a 40 week pregnancy 10 months long.

In calendar months 6 months is about 24 weeks as there are 52 weeks in a year. In fact though, it depends which months you are using as some are obviously shorter than others - this is why pregnancy terminology is in weeks! Less ambiguous.

i always find it easier to work backwards - it's less confusing.

e.g. I'm due on the 19/8 so I'll be 8 months tomorrow .

bikerunski · 18/08/2008 13:35

I just count backwards from EDD. EDD is 16 Sept, so on Saturday I started saying I was 8 months or 35+4.

Roughly, 1 month - 4.3 weeks, but months aren't a consistent length.

It works out as one month is approx 4.5 weeks (just over) so 21 weeks is about 4 and a half months...

it also depends whether you count the 2 weeks before conception in your months.

Ie if you conceive today (let's say) you would be 2 weeks pregnant, but due on 11 May. So according to the counting back formula, you would be 1 month pregnant on 11th Sept.

Counting in weeks though, you would be 5 1/2 weeks on 11th Sept.

If a "normal" pregnancy is considered to be 40 weeks long, that 40 weeks includes the 2 weeks before conception.

Whether you then want to count in days, weeks, months, lunar months, up or down is up to you and how confused you want to make the person you're talking to (I went 10 days over and really started to regrett telling everyone my EDD)
