bugaboo in london?

Has anyone seen the bugaboo gecko for sale in a London shop? I've only seen the cameleon and the bee, but I want to check out the gecko in person (seems a little smaller than the cameleon?)

if the reason you want a gecko is because of the fleece material of the chameleon, then you might be interested to know that you can get fabric cover for the chameleon and even a denim cover as well.

i had both here for a while, and there is a difference in seat sizes and weight.

A girl I knew had a gecko and the pram part was smaller than that on my chameleon. So much so that by the time her baby was 12 weeks old he had outgrown it and she had to put the seat on. He was a pretty long baby, but it was quite irksome, especially as she had spent so much money on the pram.

If you are going for a Bugaboo, I do recommend that you buy it from somewhere like John Lewis. One of the wheels broke on mine and Bugaboo told me they could sell me one but it would take 8 weeks (as I was a tiny bit outside the warranty period). JL sorted it out in less time and at no cost to me (because although I had bought it a bit over 2 years before, I had used it for less than 2 years because I bought it before the birth).

thanks everyone-- I was at Peter Jones over the weekend, but they only had the bee and the cameleon, not the gecko. Maybe I'll take a trip to Oxford St. now.

We're thinking about the gecko because it looks like (from the specs on the bugaboo website) that it's a bit narrower in the chassis than the cameleon, and also that the carry cot is smaller. We live on the 4th floor, no lift, and I'm just not sure I can carry the cameleon cot up on my own. (We can leave the chassis on the ground floori if we fold it). May just go for the bee, but then I'm also wondering how I'd fold the thing up with the baby in my arms. And I kind of like the idea of a carry cot...

I've got a Gecko. We took it to Paris (with the pushchair) when DD was 7 months and it was a bit of a pain - getting around the metro was very much a 2 person job as the chassis didn't fit through the gates unfolded and there were a LOT of stairs. Never tried it round the underground, but might be worth checking out. A good sling was a godsend.

The carrycot was great (expect DD was a nosy little wotsit and didn't like lying down if she was wide awake), but however small and light it is it won't be easy to carry with a sleeping baby in - might be worth taking a couple of bags of potatoes in and trying. For reference, DD was about 19lbs by the time she was 6 months old.

Once DC is into the pushchair, will you still need to take the seat upstairs?

I would have been wary of the Bee as I have a thing about little babies being able to lie properly flat and the Bee doesn't allow that - otherwise it does look smart and compact.

You need to play with them and try and work out what features you absolutely have to have.

I've seen a few of those bugaboo bees about and they look vey nice. I thought the baby did lie flat in it- it certainly looked that way to me? ANyHOO, worth a look.

Hmm - I thought the Bee was defined as "suitable from birth" but didn't go completely flat. I've certainly seen reviews that say it isn't a true lie-flat pushchair. They still look pretty good for around town, though.

That's what I was thinking- a good city pushchair, but as I say, I don't know exactly how flat it lies- seemed pretty flat to me, but it would need further investigation. I had a frog and I loved it. Had to trade in for P&T in the end.

Gecko and Bee look tiny. I think you won't get many children in them past 2 years, but if you get 2 years out of a pram that's a pretty good investment anyway I suppose. My daughter is at the top and bottom of her Cam and she is 2.3yrs, but she's moving to a buggy board soon anyway!
