In early pregnancy I used to eat hardly anything but prawn cocktail floured crisp snadwiches. I don't even like crisps before and after pg!

Gwenick · 13/02/2005 23:13

LOL - in the last 3 month of pg with DS1 I went through 6-10 packets of Walkers Pickled Onion Monster Munch a DAY!

2nd pg it was Salt and Vinegar French Fries but only 3-4 packs a day

KBear · 13/02/2005 23:14

ha ha, I ate jelly. DH was forever commenting on my jelly of the day selection when he opened the fridge!!!

The thing is I've tried to eat some of the healthy foods that I used to like but can't stop being sick (sometimes 10 times a day). I've puked so much that it's really begining to drain my energy and get me down. Has anyone had similar experiences?

OMG hula my craving was prawn cocktail crisps (walkers only)

nightowl · 14/02/2005 02:46

my mum craved for wine gums apparently! with ds i just drank and drank dandelion & burdock. never really had a craving with dd, only crunchy m&ms for the first 6 weeks or so..im not sure that counts!

Leogaela · 14/02/2005 08:26

I got a sweet tooth at the beginning of the pregnancy as well. Any jelly type sweets, licorice, chocolate brownies and then anything chocolate.... now I am getting close to the end I don't seem to have much appetite at all!

No malnutrition as I managed to eat everything else in large quantities as well! But I have taken pregnancy vitamins and magnesium the whole way through. My iron got a bit low at one point.

Just eat what you feel like, especially if you are being sick.

Cara76 · 14/02/2005 13:03

Walkers crisps seem to be a popular choice, maybe i'll give them a try!
Thankyou Leogaela, I'll try not to worry so much.

My sisters craving was rowntrees fruit gums (when they used to be nicer and hard - and gave you bad indigestion even if you weren't pregnant!)

Mine was healthy I'm afraid, fruit fruit and more fruit. I went through a few bananas a few bags of satsumas a few bags of oranges, some apples, tins of fruit... anything I could get my hand on!

Oh and chewing on bath sponges too....

My GP actually said that my really bad leg/ankle swelling was due to the fruit. I also put on 5 stone during pregnancy eating only fruit

If I'd eaten chips and crisps apparently, I'd have had less swelling and probably put on less!!!

At least all your cravings sound appetising - mine was raw potatoes, peeled and eaten whole like an apple! I got some incredibly weird looks from work colleagues when i used to turn up every day with a peeler in one hand and a 5lb bag of Maris Piper's in the other!!!!!!

Also, I normally only drink really strong black coffee but as soon as I fell pregnant I couldn't stomach the sight or smell of it and drank weak milky tea for the full nine months. I can remember being wheeled out of theatre (I had a c-section) and the first thing I said was "Get me a coffee - strong and black". I haven't touched a cup of tea since!

SeaShells · 14/02/2005 14:37

A few women I know craved ice lollies aswell, I did too, also aniseed balls, crunchies, polo's, anything that was hard and cruchy, something to do with your gums softening or something I heard. More worryingly I had a craving for cleaning fluids, not drinking them, but couldn't get enough of the smell, needless to say I had a very clean bathroom whilst pg!

Gem1355 · 14/02/2005 19:42

I;ve had a craving for chocolate and i usually can't stand the stuff also i like to crunch on ice cubes occasionally!

sweetbean · 16/02/2005 08:42

Hi cara76

This is my first baby to and i have had a complete addiction to wine gums jelly babys and choclate i used to be REALY health but just have such bad cravings that i had to give in and im still craving them at 41 weeks gone, don't worry you are not alone

Tommy · 16/02/2005 08:52

Cara76, I was told that pregnancy is the only time you can eat what you wnat, when you want (although if you're still trying to stay vaguely healthy you have to try and do it in moderation )IME, you have to eat what won't make you feel queasy but try and healthy-osh while you do it. In my first I craved carbohydrate and ate loads of packets of hula hoops (though not quite in Gwenick's league!), second time I really tried to stay off the crisps and ate lots of marmite sandwiches instead!

Cara76 · 17/02/2005 14:55

Thanks Sweetbean and Tommy, with that in mind I've sent my husband to the newsagents to stock up on more wine gums and some Ice lollies.

I had a craving for wine gums during pregnancy - obviously due to the "wine".

Pest when I lived in the USA and couldn't get them.

Ditto Refreshers

grege · 17/02/2005 21:14

Cara76
Dont worry about the cravings you are having, just make the most of eating what you want. Sending your hubby to the all night garage is a good idea especially in the middle of the night, it will get him used to the night feeds

Cara76 · 18/02/2005 15:37

like the idea behind that, thanks grege.

I am also boring by craving fruit fruit and more fruit. I guard my mangoes and melons with jealous eyes and don't offer to share them either.

In the first trimester the few things I could eat were oatmeal, avocado sprinkled with salt and lime juice, Doritos lightly salted crisps and sweet potato. At 31 wks I still can't stomach coffee and chocolate make my feet swell for days.

popsycal · 18/02/2005 20:21

OMG - with this preg (2nd) i ate wine gums sooo much at first....so much so that ds (2.5) calls them mummy sweets

wheresmyfroggy · 18/02/2005 20:25

dw ate nothing but ice lollies and weetabix for last month of first pg, she heading the same way this time round except she's replaced ice lollies with mint aeros and added apple crumble
