GTT 'required'- Feel a bit pressured.

DS1 was 9lb 9 and DS2 was 10lb 12. Because of DS2s weight, I 'have' to have a GTT this time.

Has anyone else had one because they have large children?

I have a strong needle phobia and am getting worked up about 2 blood tests in under 3 hours, the worst kind of needle there is in my book!

Aww, I know how you feel - I dreaded mine. You don't have to have it of course, but it's better to know (as you know). Have you any other 'symptoms' - glucose in urine/big baby this time on scans? Just think it's only 2 x 30 seconds... max. I try and forget about it as much as I can until it's happening. Maybe try and bribe yourself? Anything that works for you {hugs} x

Meant to say, I am 25 and so declined downs test as we would not terminate anyway. I did not have the test for ds1 or 2 either.
This time, they tried to pressure me to have that too.
I was sent to see consultant at 16 weeks as midwife said i would be having consultant led care this time because of large babies, and he practicially said as i had had normal pregs and natural deliveries i was to go back to MLC. All he wrote in my notes was 'declined triple test' which had nothing to do with why i was there.

why the pressure to have all these tests all of a sudden?

Also are you sure you need 2 blood tests? All 3 times I had mine it was just drink the stuff and 2 hours later have a blood test. Maybe ring your blood taking place and ask if they can do it like that?

Cover their backsides really, they have to make sure they go by the guidelines I guess. I was sent for consultant care because of my weight, had a quickie scan and was told it was all ok, which we knew but they do have to follow the rules incase anything does crop up and they may get in trouble. Obviously there is an element of the fact they do want to make sure you and baby are 100% ok aswell!

It is always your choice LotF. You don't have to have anything done that you don't want. As long as you are aware of how and why the procedure works and what (if any) risks there are should you not have it.

A client of mine recently had a large baby at home. It seems to me that you grow yours big.

thats what i thought, i just grow em big, not chubby, long and skinny.
scans have been spot on, fundus heights spot on.

Far better to know if you do have GD though LOTF, as it does present some significant risks to the baby.

I would go and get it over with.

How many weeks are you?

No other symptoms necessary to have it btw. I was diagnosed at 17 weeks this time, and am now 32 weeks, but have had absolutely no symptoms whatsoever except high blood sugar shown in tests.

I was pressurised into having one even though I had no symptoms of GD, I had a high BMI. I declined twoce and ened up having it the day before ds was born and as I had suspected all was fine!
