My God! Had a bra fitting at BOTH mothercare and Marks and Spencers, you would not believe the size difference !!

I went to mothercare this morning, asked to be fitted... the first person I asked fitted me, she measured me and told me my size ... I was like this

I couldn't find a bra that size so left.

I went to Marks and Spencers asked to be fitted, the 'fitting lady' was called.

i was measured and told I was a

38C.

Brought bras and they fitted lovely.

Guess what Mothercare told me I was??

I agere totally with MsDemeanor.
I think that most poeople are wearing the wrong size bra.
I was, and I thought it was right. until I actually got properly fitted.

not measured and then worked out with a formula.
but actually trying them on and having someone see that it fits in all the right places.
Rigby and Peller were absolutely fantastic, but have also had good service from bravissimo

DisenchantedPlusBump · 04/08/2008 21:43

I feel like this bra is right though.

Its very comfy.

Although the bra I went IN, was an ann summers bra which was a 36D and my boobs were spilling over

I hate to say this but 'comfy' is usually a sign that it is doing absolutely nothing for your body
Seriously - it's baggy and saggy and if it is, then you too will be baggy and saggy. I speak as one who has seen the light!
G'wan...get that tape measure out and tell all!

ilovemydog · 04/08/2008 21:48

the bravado web site explains how to do it yourself www.bravadodesigns.com

HumphreysCorner · 04/08/2008 21:49

M&S told me 34 AA

A proper shop told me 32 D which fits perfect.

M&S are appalling!

BroccoliSpears · 04/08/2008 21:51

thisisyesterday is spot on.

Monstercare measured me to be a 40A ffs. I would have to be a size 18 / 20 to be wearing a 40 bra. (I'm a 12 / 14). I questioned her and she did it again and got all defensive, spouting some little maths formula at me.

M&S woman put me at 36C or D, depending on style...

Debenhams woman seemed really embarrassed and uncomfortable to have to measure me.

Local independant bra shop woman never went near a tape measure, had a chat with me about boob related stuff, looked at my bust naked and put me in a 34F. She advised which styles of bra to go for currently, told me when to come back to re-measure (am bfing), explained how and why a bra works and which muscles support the breast. The woman changed my life. I had been sagging around with my tits resting on my tummy. I now have a waist and my clothes fit.

DisenchantedPlusBump · 04/08/2008 21:54

Im so confused now

I can't afford to go anywhere posh, lol,... M&S is posh for me!

MsDemeanor · 04/08/2008 21:55

Have you measured yourself yet? (looks at watch...taps foot...goes to find tape measure to offer to DPB...)

DisenchantedPlusBump · 04/08/2008 21:57

I don't think i have one!

OP posts:
fishie · 04/08/2008 21:59

! no tape measure !

(i have got one out of an xmas cracker which lives in desk drawer for internet shopping moments)

thisisyesterday · 04/08/2008 22:01

aww DPB, I know rigby and peller are a bit posh (i was very scared to go in there and made my friend go in first) but they were lovely!
Bravissimo less posh, but do an equally good job. have a look on the website and see if there is one near you perhaps?

DisenchantedPlusBump · 04/08/2008 22:01

Starting to feel a bit of an idiot ont his thread now.

hmm at 20w not worth a full bravissimo job, will cost a fair bit.

but do get a tape measure and see what size you really are, then you can go and fit yourself

wessexgirl · 04/08/2008 22:05

This thread is really inspiring me to take action. I'm 14/16 and Debenhams measured me as 38C. It has always seemed off to me - I'm uncomfortable ALL the time, and my bust seems to be somewhere around my navel. I need to get to John Lewis or somewhere pronto, I think.

DisenchantedPlusBump · 04/08/2008 22:07

Just had a look, they are like £26 each, I can't afford that.

Im Ok with these Ive got, Im sure they fit OK, they feel like it.

I'll save up for a nice nursing bra

OP posts:
thisisyesterday · 04/08/2008 22:08

I don't think they're that expensive.
my nursing bras were around £23 which is the norm isn't it????

thisisyesterday · 04/08/2008 22:10

ahh sorry, x-posted.

def save up for nursing bras. you will want a really well fitting one because they generally are not underwired and if you're big boobed then you want it to fit well so you don't sag.

use any money you get for the new baby for bras. trust me, it's SO worth it

don't feel silly at all. I think a lot of us have just been there done that, so we know how easy it is to get fitted wrongly

DisenchantedPlusBump · 04/08/2008 22:10

The ones Ive got on are £14 each.

And it was hard to hand the £28 over for them, lol!

When I had a look at the nice nursing bras in Mothercare the other day, they were all over 30 pounds.
OK they were lacy and cute and a lot nicer than the faux-satin boring ones I bought in the States, but I'd rather invest my money in a good breast pump than in some new bras when I have about half a dozen that are perfectly fine!

Where is R & P btw? I'd love to go there post BFing!
