Silver Start Unit

Does anyone have any experience of this unit at the JR in Oxford?

My midwife thinks I qualify for referral (4 m/c before 12 weeks, 2 before 20 weeks (one abruption, one IUD), one premature birth with pre-eclampsia & one normal pregnancy (with aspirin/heparin/steroids)). It would be a bit of a trek for us but they do intensive monitoring & care for women with 'complex' issues as well as preconception counselling.

I wondering whether my local obstetrician could refer me or I'd need to go to my GP (not helpful).

I was with the Silver Star Unit for a while as I had potential problems. I live in Reading so it was a bit of a trek but worth it as they are so good. I was actually "down graded" in the end but they are very good.

I got asked to be referred to JR and then from JR I was referred up to the Silver Star Unit - if i were you, I'd go for it.

I was under Silver Star for my first pregnancy. The GP referred me to a consultant at the JR who then sent me on to Silver Star. Would definitely say go Silver Star if you need to. If nothing else you get checked much more regularly which is reassuring. And also from what I have heard the post natal care on the Silver Star ward is better as they have more midwives than the 'normal' wards. Not sure I'm the best person to ask though, as I was one of their more straightforward cases and haven't been referred again this time around (am 30 weeks).
