AM I THE ONLY ONE PLANNING TO HAVE JUST 1 BABY?

would love to hear from anyone else who feels their family will be com plete with just the one child. starting to feel in the minority!!!

Same here! dh and I both agree that this baby (arriving in just 10 weeks!!) will be our first and only DH feels strongly about overpopulation... our earth simply cannot support the exponential growth of people...
I think we can only afford one. And we want to travel internationally a lot (easier with 1). We feel our family will be complete and happy with just 1

wait till you have this one and then see if you feel any different. I did after my dd was born, just so happy i wanted to have 10!!!! mind you i'm back to 2 now that the hormones have worn off.

If I feel that way after this one, I will adopt. dh and I have always wanted to adopt... so many children in the world without families to care for them

STAR6...thats so nice to hear! friends keep assuming we will be having atleast one more... but the fact is i was an only child and LOVED IT! i was exceptionally close to mum and dad and had a fab quality of life,travelled with them etc. i just feel for us 1 child will mean a happy/comfortable family unit where finances would allow a nice quality of life for us all. anyway pleased someone else is thinking along the same lines!

I agree notsoslimnow... leaving the adoption option open just in case everyone else is right when they say... "oh you will want more... just wait and see"
But to be completely honest, I don't think that will be the case at all. We want one - for all of thos reasons you have described (and of course dh's obsession with overpopulation ).

Star6 and notsoslimnow Me too. DC1 due in 6 weeks and I have been so ill this pg I can not imagine doing it again! I also feel quite strongly about overpopulation and then there's the whole finances thing. I love my job, don;t want to give it up or move back into private sector, but it's never going to pay very well. I'd rather be happy with on child, than unhappy with more.

I am one of 4 and always felt a bit lost, and competing against my siblings. Because of our big age differences, most of my playmates were friends rather than sibs when I was growing up anyway.

I have never ever had fantasies of having a large family and have waited long enough to have this one.

And I am getting on a bit too.......!

However, I reserve the right for new mum hormones to change my mind!

I keep making mental lists of all the "grown ups" I know who only have one child.

yeah and I know that money doesn't equal happiness, but I want to be able to provide as many opportunities as possible and travel/explore the world still (dh and I love to travel, snowboard..etc) and with just one this is in every way more achievable (not only financially, but that's a big one, I must admit). For some, a big family or even 2 dcs suits their lifestyle perfectly, and I respect that, but it's not for us.

im the opposite way round-brilliant pregnancy fairly easy birth, wanted at least 3 children. dd is now 17 months and i no longer want anymore as i don't think i could love another as much as her. sad really!

Only want the one here as well. He's going to be 1 next Thursday, and the thought of any more just seems weird, like getting an extra husband or something!

My DS is a gorgeous child, everything I'd hoped for, and I feel like our family is complete.

my DD is 17mo and with each passing month I become more sure that our family is complete. this is despite DD changing from being a nightmare challenging baby to a very easy-going toddler. there's a right number for everyone, and for some of us it's one .

We only planned one. Until number one was 18 months old. They are now 6 and 3.

i definitely only want one, i keep hearing oh you'll change your mind. NO I WONT! i have god children, mates children and brothers and sisters. i've already started to talk to my midwife about contraception, and told my boyfriend he is getting the snip before he even thinks about coming near me again!

I've always only wanted one child I had a brother and a sister who I don't like very much and always wanted to be an only child! I have one baby and am going to send my husband for the snip! I love my son more than anything and know that I would love another child but I really couldn't be bothered to go through pregnancy and the tiny baby stage again!

We only planned to have one. We still have one. And the number of people who tried to persuade me that I would change my mind after he was born/in a year/in 2 years really, really annoyed me.

I suspected I would only want one. Waited 35 yrs to find someone and feel bloody lucky that I have a beautiful baby girl. Dont feel the need for another.
Maybe slightly easier as DD has two sisters (8 and 19) and a brother (20) from DP's ex.

DS is likely to be an only child too. Way to ill during pregnancy and since I had him 5 weeks ago. Can't put my body through that again plus it is only me and DH with no family support around.

cmotdibbler and mum2bean - I hear you loud and clear on that. It drives me CRAZZZZZYYYY how many people say to me "ohhh, you'll change your mind after the first one, you'll see..." No, I wont. Dh and I have discussed this at length and are certain that we only want one for loads of reasons.
It's so frustrating to hear it from friends, colleagues, family...etc. Especially since they all know me to be a very organized person who knows what she wants.

My DS is 2YO and I did consider having a nother but more for him to have a sibling but have been convinced that single children are just as happy if not more so.

I don't think I could cope with another DC as had a bad time with DS from beginning of pregnancy and is still very trying of my patience
