So -

Some people have said that only specific maternity pads will do.

Some have said that Always night times ones are more comfy because of the wings and just as absorbent.

Advice please!

Is it really like a period, then? Do you have cramps with all of this bleeding as well? I just found out about "tearing" a few weeks ago... then I started to wrap my head around the whole birth idea a bit more - and now this!!! I'm wondering what is next... If you have an emergency c/s, do you still bleed this much?

yep bled for 6 weeks +. tbh i was in lots of pain as my hospital forgot to give me painkillers after the c/s so i wouldn't have noticed cramps on top of everything else!

I found the maternity pads a bit useless, and the Always nighttime ones much better. Would second getting cheap comfy baggy knickers. I didn't get cramps with the bleeding - it started off the first few days like a very very heavy period, then got lighter and lighter. Lasted about 6 weeks. Then I had my first period .

It's not so bad unless you're really unlucky. The first days are a bit slaughter-esque alright but you will hardly even notice tbh. After that it becomes much more manageable and you almost forget about it really. It is not floodgate time for the whole 6 weeks...

Thanks eyeballs!!

I agree- A good plan would be maternity pads for 1st few days/week then switch to always nighttime aswell. I wish i'd done this alot sooner as it would have made me feel a lot more 'normal' than scrunching around with mattresses in my knicks!!!

Comfy big knickers, pref. cotton and loads of maternity pads from Mothercare which were the best IMO.
My first pregnancy I went and bought paper knickers.... BIG mistake. They rubbed and made my legs sore and didn't hold the pad properly in place.
Second time round out came the granny pants!!
