Paternity leave how much did your dh/dp take?

Hi I am due with dd in 4 weeks. When I had ds 3 years ago dh took 2 weeks paternity leave and at the end felt a bit like he had wasted his time as we had so many visitors that he seemed to spend the whole 2 weeks making cups of tea. This time he is thinking of maybe only taking a week or 10 days depending of course on what day of the week she decides to arrive. I suppose what I am asking is with your 2nd dc how much paternity leave did your dh/dp take and was it better to have them around to help with your first child while you are recovering from the birth?

Hiya,

With DD DH had a total of 2.5 weeks off, that was combined holiday/pat leave.

DS is due any day & DH will be off for 4 whole glourious weeks which is a mix of pat leave/holiday

Mind you DH does work odd shifts (he's a copper) so maybe if he worked 9-5 mon-fri he would take less - I don't know!

Dp had 4 weeks off with both ds's.
With ds1 i had emcs so needed him mainly to help get the buggy up the stairs as we lived in a flat but wasnt too bothered when he went back.
Ds2 was elective cs and i was so glad that dp was off to help with ds1 as he was only 20 months and i dreaded being left with 2 babies on my own

SIL2's partner took one week, then two weeks back at work, then another week, which worked pretty well as all the hordes of visiting family could support her in between.

MrNC is thinking about doing the same for me, but luckily he can work from home most days and his large company are happy to be flexible.

I'd guess a lot depends on whether your visitors are the useful type of if you need dh to make them leave...
