JUST HAD SWEEP

hey, has anyone here had a sweep? if so how did u feel after and did u go in to labour soon after? i feel awful, got period pains and heavy legs started bleeding quite havey so went bk to hospital but all ok now tho i have such bad back ache

how mny weeks are you? if a sweep is going to work, it will do within 24 - 48 hours, and it is more effective if done at 41+ weeks

what did MW say about your cervix? is it soft, thin, dilating at all?

Backache can signal the start of labour. My understanding is that they work when you are already "ready to go".

i had baby in arms 52 hrs later

yeah im dialated 1cm and cervix is soft she said she thinks im ready and will go on me own that was b4 the sweep so i suppose we will just have to wait and see. im 39+2 and the reason for all of this is ive got alot of probs hernia and spd and generally not very good tho wasnt expecting to have a sweep

I had one with DD2 and it did nothing unfortunately. She was born 6 days later

Yes I had a sweep with DS, I was already three cms, started getting period pains within four hours. Unfortunately it also introduced an infection. Baby on the way!

Meant to add, keep an eye on your temperature now you've had it. GOOD LUCK

I had one with dd2 and she was born within the 24 hrs sounds like your on your way, if you can move with the spd and aren't stuck in a chair, try to stay on your feet as much as possible, should speed things along (or get on all fours, seems to work too, I've found in the past) Good Luck

I had 3 sweeps with dd2 and none of them worked (she was 14 days over due).

The second one was really painful, and the MW was pretty brutal (she said it had to hurt in order to work - is this true!!?) Afterwards I felt similar period type pains and had a little bleeding.

oh god every one has had such difference experiences after a sweep, suppose it really does just depend on ur body.

I had one at 38 weeks!

Just put me into crappy slow labour for a FORTNIGHT!

Can't believe it, you were just talking about asking about early induction this morning and you've had a sweep! That's progress .

Hope all goes well for you and that you're holding your baby soon.

I had (and do have this time round too) SPD, so thats why they did it.

Labour was fast when it started though!

I had one at42 weeks, baby born hours later -mw also said he was on his way anyway. It was a positve experience for me as i avoided induction. Good luck [smile}

yes, my labour also very very quick too.

I had one at 41 weeks - baby was born 17 hours later. The consultant warned me that labour could come on pretty fast and furious and not to hang around once things started happening. I ignored this advice and only made the hospital with 47 minutes to spare. Ds was nearly born on the Canterbury ring road in rush hour!

lol seeker that would have been one hell of a story for when hes older lol. yeah marmite i fort i was going to the consultant to discuss my hernia but when i got there she said coz of all my problems they fort it was best to do a sweep and book induction! wasnt expecting that like lol
