Anyone had a 4D scan at Future Babies in Reading?!

Hi,

Im 22 weeks pregnant at the moment and am looking into having a 4D scan at around 26 - 28 weeks.

I've been scouring through the internet and i think the best value and one for travelling for us is Future Babies in Reading.

Before we go spending shed-loads of money on it, has anyone had a scan there? Is it worth it? Are they good? I have a slightly awkward baby who doesnt always play ball with positioning so does anyone have experience of what they do with you if that is the case on the day?

Any thoughts/opinions gratefully received!

I had one there it was fantastic the sonographer was really good.

If you cant get a good look they will ask you to walk around and try to move the baby and if you still cant get a good look you will get another app for free also if you want to no the sex and they cant see you get another app free.

babylove, where are you from? I am in Dorset and our nearest one is in portsmouth. We are going tomorrow and we have paid £120 for a brinze package which is a gender scan with an A4 photo and a CD of pictures too.

My new baby NEVER plays ball - actually, he does play, he usually kicks the doppler thing off and then hides somewhere else and makes each MW appt last about 15mins cos she is chasing him around my womb for ages!!!! I think that if they can't get a good image they send you for a walk/drink (water sadly, not wine) and then they try again!! they do tell you to allow 20mins on top of your scan time for "positioning"

Thanks for your reply, glad to hear they're good! Im going to ring them and clear my worries too but you know what its like, sometimes what ppl say they'll do and what they'll actually do are 2 different things. Sounds good to me though - will give them a call later. Will check your pics out now - thank you

Ponty - Ooooooh thanks for your post - let me know how it goes! Who are you going with? I saw one for Portsmouth but we're up in Gloucestershire so it is a bit far for us. There is a babybond in Cirencester which is the closest one but its so expensive in comparison and you're not getting a lot.

For £155, we get a DVD, gender scan, cd rom, 4 printed photos and a gift bag.

Its a lot of money isnt it? Still 1st baby and i think i'll kick myself if i dont do it. Well, the baby will kick me, lol!

babylove - i think there is one in Bath. My friend lives in Yeovil and is going there for one. I think that's a babybond one. I'm amazed there is not one in Gloucester or Cheltenham way? i know this sounds really obvious and patronising but have you typed "4d scan gloucestershire" in to google?

On a seperate note, i am up your way in a few weeks! coming up to Mitcheldean for a party on 30th august!!

Yeh i typed it in and i made a list of all of them but Cirencester was the nearest, then one in Oxfordshire and then Reading. Didnt get any results for Bath.

Thanks for your post. I rang them yesterday and booked a provisional apt for 28th Aug when i'll be 26.5 weeks.

I asked them all the what if's and if theres any positions they cant do scans in. She said only when babys head is down that theres a prob and considering mine is adamant on being feet down, i shld be ok!

Just gotta sort the money out now!

Sorry but I think it's a big fat waste of money when you could spend the money on lovely things for the baby, like nice clothes for them to grow into. You only have 18 weeks to wait and then you'll have your baby to look at, I don't think you'll be interested in all the tacky merchandise these places sell you then.

I understand your post, i've had more than one person say the same thing to me. I guess its a personal choice for everyone, we're all different in pregnancy. DP and i have decided its something we'd like to do as a momento after a long time of TTC and a tough beginning of the pregnancy. We feel very lucky to have our baby and we're looking forward to seeing him/her before they're born. Indeed you are correct, the money cld be spent on clothes etc and we're not flushed with money but our baby will have everything nice that we can afford and it just means DP and i cutting back on our "luxuries" for a while.

MrsJamin, i think you are being a bit harsh there with your comment that it's a waste of money.

I have had 2 pregnancies already and this is hopefully going to be my last and it is not something i would have done before so i thought i'd do it this once.

Most people i have spoken to have said they too would have had a 4D scan if a) they knew about it and b) they had the money.

For all you know, people who are having them may want reassurance following difficult pregnancies previously, they would have been TTC for a long time - maybe even with IVF.

We have all of our baby stuff and this is my OH's first baby and i wanted to treat him to the scan so we decided to do it! It's not like i've spent £100's on clothes over the last 6 months so we've saved lots anyway!!!

Please don't judge or pour scorn on people's personal preference!

i don'[t think the op asked about opinions on value for money

i went there for a gender scan
they were fine - nothjing like as good as harley street scanning clinics (fetal medicine centre, the birth company, etc) thoiugh

Twowash - As much as we'd all love to have the money to go to Harley Street, its nice to know there are some companies out there who are good and we can afford eh?!
